Given our discussions on sticking to the speed-limit, tailgating and guns in the past, I thought this story would be of some interest.

Seems like something has been left out of the story. These sound more like the actions of people who knew each other rather than complete strangers. But then again on that same page is a teacher and a 12yr old and a dad shooting his kid. Maybe just an odd area to live. Probably not the best vacation destination.
That odd area is called the USA:
Gun Homicides (average annually):
Less than 50: Japan
Less than 150: Germany, Italy, France, etc.
Less than 200: Canada
More than 10,000: USA
Source: IANSA (International Action Network on Small Arms of the United Nations)
Ok, the USA’s weapon of choice is the gun. What are the other countries weapons of choice?
Murder, rape and other “human” goings on are still happening worldwide.
Still boils down to the same thing. People WILL find a way to kill each other.
Ftfy
In all seriousness, how many of those were accidents?
Montreal
Nope
I was curious, as I grew up in Livonia, MI, which is about 115 miles away from Ionia. I had to look it up. It’s a small town in the middle of middle America. Certainly not a bustling city with roads packed with traffic.
My initial, not-very-sympathetic reaction: Thanks for taking yoursleves out of the gene pool without harming anyone else. But of course others were harmed.
Gun:
They were both legal concealed-carry users. If they hadn’t had guns, obviously they would not have shot each other but it’s hard to say how things would have gone. Odds are they would both be still alive, one or both would be in jail, there would be court and lawsuits, etc. but at least both would still be alive. The having guns make them feel like they didn’t need to back down? Doesn’t matter now, at least not for them.
Stupid road rage. If someone’s following too closely behind me, I just keep driving slow until they go around. Usually it’s not about me anyway, it’s about me being in that person’s way. I get out of the way. In the rare event that the person seems glued to my bumper in particular, I will make some turns to see if it’s really about me, which it isn’t. In the case of this incident, there must have been quite a bit of antagonistic driving before they both decided to stop and get out of their vehicles. If both didn’t want to stop, one of them would have kept on going.
More about gun:
Billy’s statistics show gun deaths but don’t have a breakdown of what kind of deaths. I just read something (in relation to the DC shooting) that said 2/3 of gun deaths in the United States are suicide. Again, the weapon of choice. Some other chunk of those numbers are also accidents. But the same must be true for other countries where people have guns. We just have more access to guns here, so we are more efficient at killing each other.
Last comment: Don’t blame Ionia. I’m sure it’s a nice town; as nice as the rest of Michigan (which does have its problems).
With the Michigan Militia?
Didn’t the Oklahoma City Domestic Anti-Government Terrorist train with them?
Norm Olson, who founded the Michigan Militia in 1994,
Olson’s message: “We’re looking at catastrophe just a couple months away — economic collapse, food shortages around the world, prices in stores are gonna go skyrocketing with this inflation,”
“I’m convinced that times are coming when we are going to have to repel federal aggression, tyrannical oppressive federal aggression. They’re going to want to quell any kind of uprising, because it’s bad for politics,” Olson was quoted as saying.
Presiding over the meeting alongside Olson was Michigan Militia co-founder Ray Southwell. In the 1990s Olson and Southwell together made the Michigan Militia one of the first major antigovernment Patriot groups in the country and helped transform their former home state into a hotbed of Patriot activity.
Olson drew widespread attention to his group when he revealed that Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Terry Nichols had attended a Michigan Militia meeting not long before the terrorist attack.
I like transparency in an organization.
Fortunately, even in a state like Michigan, groups like the Michigan Militia represent a tiny blip in the population of what tends to be a blue state in the big elections.
