So I’m going to NZ and I figure since I have to stop off in Aus anyway, I might as well go somewhere interesting and stay there for a bit. I am a pretty big fan of big cities with lots going on, and I’m wondering which city has more to offer.
I know that no matter what I’m going to get some pretty biased opinions, but I’m curious to see which city sells itself better.
I’m interested in all pros you can give me, whether they be more urban things or things like proximity to trails and the like.
Sell me your city!
Also don’t bother trying to sell me another city, as I have already narrowed it down pretty well to these two, so you would probably be wasting your time trying to sell me another. Although if it is that good and you can sell it that well, then I’m down for other ideas.
being to sydney and melbourne a lot of times. i think riding in melbourne is better but more tourist attractions in sydney. either way i think youll be happy. tough choice though:)
melbourse sells itself as a culture capital, and sydney sells itself on its looks. Melbourne would be better for you if you enjoy a good cozy nightlife with interesting small bars, live music joints and stuff like that. But if you just going there to do touristy things then sydney has more to offer. I’ve spent more time in sydney than i have in melbourne. It has great beaches, a beautiful harbour and pretty good night life too (newtown or oxford street have the cheaper hangouts than the stuff in the CBD)

Wow I just checked out bus prices, and it is really cheap to take a bus from Melbourne to Sydney, so I think I might just do that. I think flying in and out of Sydney is a bit cheaper, so at this point I’m thinking of flying into Sydney, and taking the bus straight to Melbourne. Stay in Melbourne for like 5 days or so then head back to Sydney for a couple days.
melbourne to sydney bus is horrid.
Tom trevor pretty much nailed it.
If it was summer i would say Sydney.
but it isn’t, so i say Melbourne.
Hobart is nice
I agree. Do a cycle tour after Unicon. There are heaps of interesting rides. For instance take the ferry across to Picton and then ride the Queen Charlotte Walkway. 70km of blissful singletrack…one of my favourite rides in the world.
As for Australia, I would pick Melbourne over Sydney. Got more of a cultural vibe.
