Can I swap these frames? It seems to me like it would work but I haven’t got a nimbus II to try it on first. I’m mostly worried about the tire clearances with my KH 19" frame on a true 20" wheel. Does anyone have any relevant information.
If I can get the KH frame on the nimbus II but not the nimbus II frame on the KH that would be okay since I have an old beat up nimbus frame that I can use instead of the new nimbus II that I know does work. I believe the frame is a 2012 KH longneck frame if clearance varies from year to year.
I have a nimbus trials and nimbus equinox. So not exactly your situation, but this may provide a bit of useful info…
My equinox has a 20x2.35" tire, which has about 1mm clearance to the frame on top.
I measured both frames from the center of the crank bolt up the side to where the max clearance would be. On my Nimbus trials it’s roughly 10.5", on the equinox it’s 10.75". My 20" wheel wouldn’t fit on my nimbus trials with the big tire, if it had a 1.95" tire it probably would.
I would imagine that the 20" wheel would fit on a kh trials frame, but it may be dependent on tire size.
There used to be a KH street with that frame and a 20" wheel and “grifter” tire. I am npt sure what the size was on the grifter bur you could probably look it up.
I don’t mean to be pedantic, but KH doesn’t make a “19”, he calls it the “KH20.” I would be more concerned about the 19" wheel working on the Nimbus. Depending on which Nimbus2 you get it may work, or there may not be enough room for the 2.5 tire. I would call UDC to be sure about the fit. If it’s a Nimbus2 trials frame, no problem.
From what I recall the 19" wheels were developed to allow wider tires on mod trials bikes. I guess there’s a wheel size limit in competition, and so they came up with a 20" tire that has a smaller rim to give more volume, but stil fit the same frame. At least for a while the tires were marked 20x2.5 to underscore the 20 inchness of the size. Maybe they are still marked that way. I don’t know.
So if any of that is true you should have no problem putting the flatland wheel on the KH20.
