Sushi

Does anybody else here have an extreme passion for sushi? I do. My favorite is the philly roll.

I hate it…

Thats weird how people either love it or hate it. They very rarely say “its okay”.

Mmmm sushi is delicious!!! I rarely get to eat it cause it’s pretty costly…but philly rolls are the shiz.

Yeah I would rather eat dog shit…

Really think about what you just said.

Ok I did and I have thought of something… I would eat god shit WITH mold on it over that gross weird stuff.

If you ate god shit, would you get smiting powers?

No you would just get into heaven and get to do whatever you ewant just about… although god prolly shits great food so yeah why not…

He shits sushi.

You lose. :stuck_out_tongue:

No way he shits ice cream.

i love sushi.

Nonsense. Most of the people who claim to hate it have never actually put it in their mouth. Sorry, you’re not allowed to have a like/dislike opinion about stuff you haven’t tried. It’s okay to be grossed out by the idea or whatever, but don’t judge tastes without tasting.

That said, it helps a lot to try some good sushi. If you got yours at a food court or supermarket it’s probably not a good example. There’s a very wide range, and the good stuff is really amazing while the cheap/indifferent stuff is not necessarily good at all.

Lastly, sushi does not mean a piece of raw fish, or raw fish over rice. Technically it’s the way the rice is prepared, and fish is optional. There are many varieties of sushi that don’t have fish in them, such as tamago or all-veggie ones. If you want something non-threatening to start with, try some California roll. The crabmeat (or fake crabmeat) is cooked; nothing raw in there. The rest is rice, avocado and nori (seaweed paper) and maybe some sesame seeds. There are many variations of course.

So don’t be a chicken. Wickedbob, please describe the sushi you tried, and what you didn’t like about it.

Yum!

And don’t forget uni (sea urchin)! Most of what you get in Japan comes from Santa Barbara, CA!

Well i love the stuff… especially if its been made by Japanese people and if its got cooked tuna in it… with a bit of soy sauce. mmmmmm mouth watering.

Very true. A lot of people have the misconception about sushi and therefore will never willingly try it. Aside from the California rolls, I’ve seen different variations of the vegetable tempura roll, which is straight vegetable.

There are a few other types I really like besides the philly roll that my local sushi bar has but I don’t remember what they are called…I know a couple of them had a nice, surprising bite to them.

I think dragon roll is one of them…

I’ve only had sushi at a vegitarians party, no fish

When you came with us, we got the Rowlett roll, which I’m pretty sure is the spicy one. It was good. I’m pretty sure we also got the eel roll (very good stuff…), and some shrimp that was also really good.

I like the simpler stuff when it comes to sushi. I like most all of it, but I’d rather have some shrimp + rice than eating something with 18 different ingredients.

i love sushi, and i have it about once a week, if not more.

my dad makes a petty killer caterpillar roll, but my personal favorites are hamachi sashimi, all hamachi rainbow rolls, and shrimp tempra rolls.

spicy salmon and spicy octupus hand rolls are also great.

my dad loves uni, but that stuff is so disgusting to me.

3 weeks ago, me and my dad bought a pound of fresh yellowtail from a guy who sells the sushi shops fish.

it was so great, better than alot of the toro i have tasted. it lasted about 30 minutes:o

What’s that?

Uni is Sea Urchin. It smells very metallic, and I personally do not like the flavor at all.

I do love sushi in general, though.

I like “Red Ice Ball” rolls (rolls=maki sushi), which is a spicy tuna roll with a nice large hunk of red snapper on top of each roll.

I also like nigiri sushi, which is just a pile of rice with a big strip of fish on top. You can see this in John Foss’s “Yum!” photo. I’d say it’s the most “hardcore” sushi experience, because the fish is the dominating flavor.

My usual order at the local sushi joint is an order of Red Ice Ball Rolls with a 12 pc nigiri combo that my dad and I share. Good stuff, and really good for you!
