Surfing

Hey everyboby,
hoep everyone is doing well.

Ive got a new hobby… surfing!
Ive lived on the coast for all my life, and always wanted to try, but never got round to it. A couple of weeks ago,I took a lesson at my surf shop. Everyone is so cool and laidback. Its awesome.

Ive been saving for my own board since then, and am hopeing to get it just before, or after christmas.
As for a wetsuit, Santas got that covered! :stuck_out_tongue:

Just wondered if anyone else surfs. If so, what you ride? and where?

Merry Christmas,

Joe

I used to surf for about 4 years when I lived in Hawaii. I learned when I was 4. I got pretty good but havent done it since I was 8…

Re: Surfing

sick. I love the title. You need a business card to mount that beast on.

I’m glad you’ve made this thread cause ive often wondered the exact same thing.

I surfed (various crappy shortboards) in elementary and middle school. I was never very good at it but i loved doing any thing in the water.

Now i end up kitesurfing whenever im in a place thats good for surfing. I got tired of waiting for the sets to roll in.

…but i still think surfing is very cool. And its also very cool that you’ve learned to do it.

Let us know how you progress. Maybe a little pic-age?

I surfed for 10 years when I lived in San Diego, CA. I haven’t been out in the ocean for nearly 5 years now. :frowning:

I miss it tons. Great sport for exercising your balance.

Did you ever surf naked Black’s beach? ahahahaha

I too miss San Diego.

I surfed for like two hours this summer in August. The waves were bleak and the water was ridiculously viscuosly(SP) cold. There wasn’t enough surf to have a good run at it, like I’d just get up and then hit ground. I actually had the junior national champion teaching me or maybe international. If I lived some where with good surf I’d probably get into it. if this doesn’t make sense its cause I don’t know any of the right words sorry.

David

Cool!
More people than I thought (were)/into surfing.

Yeah, im not too good at the moment, but I havnt been doing it long! I’ll let you know how I get on.

Mango, kitesurfing sounds cool! Ive see people do it at Tynemouth, where I live. It can be boring waiting for the sets, but well worth it! Id love to have a go at kitesurfing though. a new ‘Extreme’ shop has opened nextdoor to the surf shop and they do the kites. They also do the boards for kiteboarding, or whatever it is called, and mountain boarding.

Ill post a pic of me and my board when I get it… a 7ft 4" MiniMal

Joe,

You need to come to Western Australia to try surfing, we’ve got some good waves here. And don’ty forget your unicycle.

I did surf there, often, always covered up.

!!!

Too right mate!

All I need is my surfboard in one hand, and my Trials in the other! :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously though, I’ll have to come pay you and Carter a visit!

Joe,

Surfing is amazing. I surf here on tropical vancouver island… okay it’s freezing, but we still get waves and it’s killer.

I’ve never surfed, but I always pictured it being like bc wheeling, is it?

What gave you that idea??? It’s alot like snowboarding, only more forgiving. The balancing and learning curve is much different…

But I guees if you used your imagination, it could be kind of like bc wheeling.

Well, Im the proud owner of a 7ft 4" Spider MiniMal now!

It rocks. I got it on New Years Eve, and went straight in. This was the first time I’d tried my wetsuit out too… Its so warm

I managed to stand a few times, which I was pleased with. I’m planning to go back in on wednesday, or thursday with my mate.

Joe,

Thats so cool! What a nice looking setup. All i got for New Years Eve was shot at with fireworks:D .

That beach is great looking too, esp. with the crazy looking church.

keep it up, joe

I just started surfing this summer here in Massachusetts. The water is a little… cold. I’ve been wanting to surf forever and eventually just decided to go for it.

I only have a spring suit, so I had to stop surfing sometime in October. I decided I’m not good enough to bother investing in a winter suit this season. The best waves around here are in the winter though. People are kind of nuts about it, I’ve see videos of people surfing during a blizzard. You gotta grab the waves when you can get them.

Very nice, but do you realise what this means, Joe? In that picture not one thing you’re wearing is made by 661! That must be a first.
Have surfed a bit, but only the proper version with a sail.
