Super Bowl Predictions

I’m going with the underdogs… While The Rams are clearly the best team
in the league, they’re a bit over-rated. Here are my two predictions,
one for each team winning…

Patriots 27
Rams 23

or:

Rams 31
Patriots 17

Jay Tierney – jay@jaytierney.com

Have you heard who gets the call at QB for the Patriots?

Good! I think the kid should get his shot, because he did get them to the
Super Bowl. If he plays bad because of the injury then they should throw
Bledsoe out there. I think they could give the Rams a run for their money,
due to the over-confidence of St. Louis. One good hit on Warner and the Rams
lose. It’s happened before…

If the best defense in the league couldn’t get to Warner last week, I
doubt the Pats get to him this week.

Oh yeah…well, he might eat too much chunky soup and get sick.

Seriously, I believe the Rams are being a little too cocky this post-season.
Sure they deserve it, but I have seen them get put out of the play-offs last
year by the Saints 2nd year bench warmer quarter-back (Aaron Brooks), which
by the way, was in the same situation as Tom Brady this year.

Sorry about Philly - I was rooting for them. But the Steelers had the best
defense in the NFL last season and it didn’t seem to stop the Pats.

JD

I agree… although, the second he throws a ball HIGH and it gets
intercepted (if that happens), they should yank him immediately. If his
passes go high, it’s most likely because of his ankle, especially on
artificial turf (Steve Young explained this very clearly on ESPN).

One thing Philly DID do was prove that the Rams’ defense isn’t nearly as
good as they think they are. Brett Favre just had a bad day when the
Packers played 'em.

Thanks! I was rooting for Oakland too. Gruden did a great job this year.

Well, they DID sack McNabb a few times, which isn’t common at all! I’ve
seen McNabb break 6 tackles and run for 18 yards!

-Mike K.

I wonder if Gruden will be back next year?

JD? Thoughts, info?

-Mike K.

yeah, this next year is his last year on his contract and his agent said it
would be his last.

McNabb still needs a few years. He’s got a lot of talent, but he also
has that inexperienced impulse to choke. Like during that goal-line
stand against the 49ers, he should’ve just thrown it away and taken the
field goal instead of trying to force it. I think in maybe three or
four years he’ll be MVP material (he sure is fast!).

I have been hearing some talk about Tampa Bay wanting him before the end of
his contract.

Oh sure, he’s young… But the last 5-6 games of the seaason, he proved
his worth.

I can’t wait for next season. I think this is the first time in my life
I’ve been excited about the Eagle’s next season. Almost all the players
are returning

I agree. Actually, my prediction for next season’s NFC Championship
game is S.F. vs. Philadelphia – two teams that made a big leap this
year and will be better next year.

Jay Tierney – jay@jaytierney.com

My first inclination after the New England fiasco was to fire/trade Gruden,
here is why:

With 1:45 left to play in 4th quarter, on 4th down and 4 inches to go to win
the game, Gruden punted. He showed no faith in his offense at all, and
since he doesn’t have any control over the defense, he chickened out and
gave the Patriots an opportunity to win the game, which they did.

Many of my fellow Raider fans claim he did the right thing, played it
“conservative” to the end. I disagree - I think he was afraid and punted
hoping the defense would get the win. I have seen this happen time and time
again over the last few seasons, and as popular a coach Gruden is, I don’t
think he has that “winning touch” needed to take any team to the next level.

As far as what’s going to happen? I think Al Davis will make Gruden finish
his last year of his contract - for spite if nothing else. Gruden will get
a 5 million dollar contract after the next season no matter where he
coaches - and there is little hope that Al Davis will pay any coach that
kind of money, so Gruden is gone after this next season either way.
Personally I would rather see Dennis Green at the helm of the Raiders, but I
don’t write the paychecks.

Odd, you make no mention of the horribly bad call that cost the Raiders
the game in New England.
