Sun Valley Co and MUni on Baldy

Yesterday Jared and I rode down Baldy, having gotten permission from Sun Valley
Co. to ride the lifts. There were many loose rocks at the top which made things
interesting for a while. The second half of the Lower College Run was
covered in knee high purple flowers and was easy riding. I was trying to
dodge the flower plants and ride in the open spaces between but in places
they were packed so tightly that I had to ride over the plants. Jared says
he ran over a couple butterflies but I imagine they flew away at the last
minute. I rode the whole mountain, going back up when I fell to try the
obstacle again. Jared walked a couple of the steeper stretches on the
College runs and on Exhibition. We only rode a very short distance on
Exhibition as it is quite steep and I had to ride one stretch without my
water pack because it involved bouncing up out of an erosion control ditch
and I couldn’t do it with the pack on. I had to walk back for the pack.
Jared was pretty beat when we finished and my legs were tired but not too
bad. The ride descended three thousand vertical feet. The lift attendants
were amazed and had a few laughs about us and our unicycles. I am going
again at the first available opportunity. Jared and Judy are going to
Chicago for a vacation soon so I imagine I will go alone.

Joe, sounds like a lot of fun. A 3000’ descent is nothing to sneeze at. Lately,
we’ve been riding the hill behind my house, up 2100’ in about 4 miles, then
down. Finally, now I am not sore the next day after.

Also, Geoff and I have been meeting at Stanford university which we have
renamed, “The University of Stairs”. We do 1 1/2 to 2 hours of stairs practice,
with the goal of being able to compete at the Trials competition in Bejiing - we
are leaving in 2 1/2 weeks!

Have fun, and I’ll see you at Muni weekend.

Joe,

If you can get a Monday or Tuesday off I’ll come with you. I’m living in Nampa
for the summer, and I haven’t done much Muniing here for lack of terrain.
