First time riding this amazing trail located in Thousand Oaks, CA. It’s called Suicide/dead cow trail. There were some huge ledge drops and other stuff that I decided not to do since I went solo, but I put myself through the ringer just the same!
On a humorous note, I got totally lost several miles in, ran out of water, was totally exposed to sun, and there no hiker/bikers around that that point. Made a guess at one of the many turns, and luckily it was the right one!
Driving home my leg muscles were cramping up so bad I had to keep pulling over and get out of my car to walk it off! The pain was excruciating and I couldn’t get the cramping to stop! That was pretty much a first for me, but I suspect it was lack of water. Anybody else ever have this after a long, grueling ride?
But a great trail, which is simply relentless and a flat out butt-kicker…regardless of age, skill or fitness level! You just have to BE there to fully appreciate it.
The hiker comments and reactions are pretty funny! (and Morty makes a brief appearance at the end.)
I had cramping during the unicon XV XC ride I had to stop on my last lap because It was sooo bad. after that I had to go to train station to get home and I was standing in line and my knees just locked and had to walk funny because I could bend my legs…
That trail is totally awesome. Yet I haven’t found such an amazing trail here in the mountains (but I know it MUST be somewhere ).
And I like your cat too
The quote in the beginning reminded me of one of my favourite quotes: “You don’t stop playing because you grow up. You grow up because you stop playing”.
hahahahhaha guess what… that trail is LITERALLY right across the street from my house. well when i lived at my moms that is. i live just on the other side of kanan road. that trail is one of the steepest trails i have ever riden. and it has some intense drop sections (none of which you filmed haha =P).
Thanks. The trail is awesome. Maybe there are trails you haven’t yet found. Maybe you could check geoladders or some other online sources for trails in your area.
Thanks much!
Yeah it was totally involuntary and my feet were also contorting with muscle spasms as well…talk about “restless leg syndrome”, lol!
Awesome is a good word! Have you checked online sources for trails in your area? Another good way to find trails is to ask local bike shops. And you’re right, the quote is similar. I just made a little change in it above from “up” to “old” which is the actual word used in that quote. Oh, and Morty says thanks!
Haha, small world! Yeah the camera can’t really capture the steepness and intensity of that trail, and while I did some drops, the really big ones I’ll save for next time, when I’m with at least one other rider, for safety reasons! :o
Thanks for taking us there sort of. It must be fantastic to ride that trail!
The music was a good choice too. But whatever happened to your UCC? There was not one single shot filmed with it. Probably too steep or not enough trees around?
Anyways, I love your videos! Keep them coming!
Thanks, yeah I still do the UCC, like in my last 36er video, but you’re right about there being no trees, or at least not enough of them in the right places haha. That’s also why it so barren and 100% exposed to sun.
Lack of salt or potassium might be the problem, as both are needed for muscle contraction. Salt is more likely since we lose it through sweat. I sometimes mix a bit of VitaLite or similar product (some people apparently just throw in some salt and honey) into one water bottle if I plan on sweating all day. I’ve found it most useful on multi-day rides. Life seems to be a multi-day ride for you, so you could have just gotten behind on your salt intake. Note that I’m not a doctor of the medical variety, so take my comment with a grain of, um…
That’s a good point about salt! I do tend to sweat a lot when doing MUni, even on cooler days. Usually have gatorade in the camelbak, which has plenty of electrolytes, but this time it was water only, and not enough at that! Not like me to be unprepared like that, but was just in too much of a hurry to get started that this one little-important detail was overlooked! :o
Wow Terry … a back-woods audience. Maybe you could do “trail shows” and pass the helmet!
Brilliant skills.
Shug
Terry … you are the reason I have even been checking here of late. I am nursing a broken big toe… ouch all the time. gotta let it heal a bit but will ride the 29’er.
