Strengthening my lolypop hubed uni

I am saving up to get a trials Uni, but in the mean time I have been using my bike store unicycle for some very light trials. The problem is that I have lolypop hub on it and hear that they are very poor quality and tend to brake the frame where they connect. I was wondering if there is a way I could strengthen this just until I get my Trials. I won’t have the money to get my Trilas for a while, and can’t wait till then, so please help me.

Thanks

Logan

Gardner Buchanan has a great fix for this which you can read about in his FIX LOLLIPOP THREAD. He has a link to some excellent photos and drawings of his fix.

if you have an old junker bike around or know where you can get one, sidepull and centerpull brakes use these washers that are flat on one side and concave on the other.some are more concave than others but you sould be able to find some that would would sit flush with the fork blade.

i had the same problem. I fixed it pretty good until I got a yuni frame. i had my friend sloppily weld around the holes and grounded them so the outside was flat. the weld even fixed up the gap where pieces of the frame were missing. all you have to do is dremel the welds so they are flush and it works good. i have pictures i will try to get online asap.

i have no camera. my original piece of crap was made sound enough to survive
a few weeks until my miyata got here (ahhh i love my shiny miyata, and so do
some of the chickies) by bolting a cross section of aluminium (look out, in
the us you will need to correct this spelling)pipe to the outside.

Re: RE: Strengthening my lolypop hubed uni

This is good. I am pleased. Someone recognizes that this spelling needs to be CORRECTED. Things that are different are OK. Things that are incorrect need to be corrected.

Re: Re: RE: Strengthening my lolypop hubed uni

I think you shouldn’t be pleased harper! IMO, Aaron’s remark requires
a slight modification (if not correction). The official spelling of
the name of the metal, as authorised by the International Union of
Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), is ‘aluminium’.

That the recommendation of this internationally recognised body is
neglected by the USA is sad, but fully in line with the USA’s attitude
towards the Kyoto protocol, the United Nations and…

OK, I’ll step off my soap box.

I think John Childs moved the political natter over to Just Conversation . You should use that soapbox as a rowboat and come over to the shores of the US where we know how to spell “aluminum” and I will buy you a cheeseburger and a rootbeer.

Re: Re: Re: Re: RE: Strengthening my lolypop hubed uni

I shaired space with a NewZealander once who’s learic pronounciation of aluminium forever changed my opinion on the mater; he would make crude shamanistic anodized pieces cast from a carved cuttlefish bone- I would stear conversation tword repeated command performances of this pop-metal pronounciation. You should have heard him say water- which, amazingly, has no d in it.
