On a day of continual rain, high winds and genneraly stormy weather the 1st
Stourport unicycle happened on saturday.
Paul and I went along to join in, arriving mid morning to a hall already buzzing
with skills workshops, and the skill level was quite high , one group were
fousing on hopping and related skills while another were trying wheel walking
and gliding. Not wishing to be left out we quickly got our passes ( I had the
harry potter one and got riding. The morning passed in a frenzy of
unicycling.
Early afternoon we cleared the hall so a hockey session could take place , this
was won by team wibble . the teams were selected from three bands of player, the
regular, the once or twice before and the new to hockey. This gave us fairly
even teams which always makes for a good game. due to the smallness of the hall
teams only had 4 players. My team RCS ( say it quickly came equal third .
While not playing hockey a number of riders were watching videos, the Universe
vid seemed to be the favourite , being repeated deveral times during the day. We
also watched footage from previous BUCs and BMW, and one wheel no limits ( who
chose that chessey muzac ?) .
Agter hockey sily games were played, it was STILL chucking it down outside so no
muni ride this time. Just games of Gladiators, stuck in the mud, chain tag,
Bulldog and some slow races. Haloween themed prizes were distributed.
A fish and Chip supper was acompanied by ANOTHER screening of Universe , then
those who were still around hit the gym again for more practise and skill
shareing, Rocket set up a slack rope and a few tried that out. I acheved some
improvem, ent in my hopping and managed to hop from riding forwards at the first
attempt, boy was I chuuffed with that. Now I just need to get over my problem
with being freaked by kurbs, canes, ropes and any thing else I’ve ever tried to
hop over and I’ll be able to enter a long jump comp.
So at last we went home , tried but happy unicyclist. Jelous of those who didn’t
have to be a work on sunday and so could stay over for the ( more general circus
skills) second day.
Thanks are due to all the members of the Stourport club for their work, this is
one of the Uks strongest uni clubs with a lot of teenage members. When these
guys can afford to come to Unicon I want to be there.
Special thanks for on the day organiseing should go to ( I think) Jacki , Steve,
Fi, Leigh and Kaligh and Rocket for Hockey and Roger for workshops.
