Okay so I googled this and they say it’s normal because the blood is rushing to other parts of your body (the parts that are getting the most use) during it.
I’ve been having issues where I either end up suffering from upset stomach and even the runs after unicycling a bit. A few days ago while touching my stomach I noticed that it was really cold, which scared me, until I read about it a bit, it does feel uncomfortably cold though… A few times it has cut my training time down (once I had to stop half way down the block cause I just had to use the bathroom badly and call it a day afterwards)
Anyone have similar issues?
I was thinking about wearing stomach pad of sorts but not sure what…but it would suck considering I have to put on more stuff (aside from protective gears) just to unicycle. It gets somewhat cold over here but after a bit of unicycling I end up taking off my coat because I’m sweating like crazy and it overheats me.
Sounds like what you described as well. Typically I had my issues in the summer though. What helped me was to drink a little water at frequent intervals while riding as opposed to drinking a lot at one time. Making that change reduced the nausea significantly.
Cold/ice water would also trigger the nausea, though to a lesser extent. I learned that in summer just normal refrigeration was as cold as I should ever get my water.
Finally… I try to avoid hydrating with drinks with sugar in them, or if I have a gatorade or something I make sure to drink more water than gatorade during a ride.
Once I realized what was going on I experimented with it a bit. A combo of those three things got rid of the problem for me.
The good news is that from a medical point of view, most of disease make your body/skin warmer or hot… Cold is rarely a problem, a part from limb ischemia…
It’s not as cold as that when I ride, probably around 45F-55F (colder weather makes me lazy…)
I do notice that I tend to have that issue when it is colder, less so when it’s in the afternoon or on days when it’s warmer.
I’m not nauseous though, just the upset / diarrhea issue, didn’t feel like vomiting. I know what you’re talking about, I got that during high school when the coach kept trying to force all of us to run 20 laps around the field when I didn’t even want to run 2.
Haha, as long as it’s not the type that pops out of my chest.
It just scared me because there was such a difference in body temperature. The rest of my body is either warm or hot, I’m sweating like crazy, yet my stomach felt ice cold. Like the rest of my body is alive but my stomach area is detached from the rest…it’s a bit numb too on the touch.
