staying in one position!!

CAn anyone tell me how to stay in the same position so that I can juggle while
on my uni?? I have only been using the uni for about two weeks, and even after
the first week I was able to travel long distances without falling and I was
also able to get up on it without holding onto anything which was pretty hard to
perfect, but you see, no-one I know is able to use the unicycle and I really
need to know how to stay in the one spot, I have seen it done at a convention I
was at and the guy was going back and forth but it won’t work for me!! do you
have to use your arms a lot?? the guy i saw did which makes me think, “how the
hell am I going to juggle clubs then?” !!!

pleeeeaaaassseeee help!!

Re: staying in one position!!

I have that same problem. I can juggle; I can unicycle but not the two together.
I read in a posting once that when your learning to juggle on the unicycle,
protect your seat with tape or something and keep the juggling going and let the
unicycle fall out from under you. Keep doing it this way. Then you can stay on
the unicycle longer and longer and maintain your juggling.

I haven’t tried this method yet. I tried to maintain my unicycle riding and kept
losing my juggling balls. I soon gave up.

Staying in one position, requires the “idling” skill. The fast way to learn is
to move your dominant foot from the 4pm-7pm position on a clock, without
applying much pressure on the other foot. once you can do this w/o holding on to
anything, then try crossing your arms, keeping your upper body straight.
endurance & practice is the key. If you can juggle, then your ready to
juggle/idle. Riding forward & juggling is much easier then idling/juggling
because it is only 1 motion.

Juggling on a unicycle is harder than it might seam, you tend to use your
arms/shoulders to counteract the movement of the unicycle. I would suggest:
a: get your juggling absolutely solid with as little movement of the
shoulders as possible. I find I have a smaller pattern when I do this and
it works better.
b: try to learn to idle one footed. The reason behind this is that when you can
idle one footed you are using your hips to counteract the movement of the
unicycle in preference to the shoulders. I am not saying that you need to
juggle one footed, but when you can idle one footed you will be smooth enough
at idling to try juggling.

There is lots of advice on how to learn to idle on the net so I wont go
in to that.

I have found that I can juggle better on a giraffe than I can on any other
unicycle, I think this is because the rocks are slower and smoother. Anyway,
good luck:

I am definitely a unicyclist and peer pressure has forced me to learn to
juggle. I am a really crap juggler and am often introduced as the “Unicyclist
who cannot juggle”.

Have fun
