stack hat type

what type do you use?
i really wanna know if ther are any of you using full faced like the ones that BMX’ers use

Do mean a helmet?

I use a protec skate helmet

I use the 661 Mullet, full face is prety rare for unicycling but it has been done, to be honest you don’t usually get enough speed or enough air to really need one.

I use a full face for (what I call) serious MUni.

On a hot day and a hard ride, it can make me feel a bit claustrophobic.

I have a scar on my chin from chin-butting a rock. 7 stitches. That is what prompted me to buy the full face.

Mostly I wear a normal cycling helmet.

Very occasionally, I wear none.

One problem with the majority of full face helmets is that they restrict your downward range of vision. They make it more difficult to look down and see what you are about to roll over. On a bike that is not really an issue because on a bike you are looking farther ahead than you do on a unicycle. On a unicycle you are often looking right down at the wheel to see what you are about to roll over. For that reason full face helmets are never going to catch on for unicycling. There are a few full face helmet designs that do allow more downward field of vision, but they tend to be specialized and more expensive.

i dont usually go on long rides

I’ve never noticed that problem. I look a few feet ahead to read the trail, and rely on prediciton and feedback (the feel of the wheel) to deal with the problems immediately below me.

But my off roading is mainly on mud, sand, roots and stuff. It may be different if you’re riding on lots of embedded rocks.

Either way, I have noticed two things:

  1. Wearing a full face helmet detracts from my enjoyment of the ride.
  2. So dies smashing my chin on a rock and ending up in casualty.

fankz guys
i fink ill just stick with the regular skate helmet

I’ve been growing a mullet… it sure protects my neck from a sunburn!

Why not just buy some good arm guards and gloves and catch yourself before you hit the ground? I’ve never stacked (and trust me, I’ve stacked a lot) such that my hands aren’t the first part of my upper body to hit the ground.

I apologize in advance if you’re missing an arm. It’s hard to see you guys on the other side of the fora… this durned blue & white background is pretty opaque.
