This article really brought home to me that the internet is now
something the government is supposed to protect for us! Wow!

Seeing as how this would be my 3rd Dell and I have nothing bad to say about
them, I would say I would always buy a Dell

My new laptop should be coming to my doorstep soon!

Maybe better organized in US.

I called last week Dell about Banias.

All other computer companies tolled me,
they will have the first Banias end of March.

Only the moron at the Dell hotline did not know what Banias is.
He called an other hotline moron, and this one also did not
know what a Banias is.

What’s wrong with a “mobile” P4?

To much energy to much heat
to much noise to cool down the heat
not enough battery run time.

Normal, I purchase every even year a new notebook.

But last year, it was impossible, because they replaced
good mobile PIII notebooks like mad with unuseable
PIV notebooks.

So instead of June 2002, I will purchase my new
notebook maybe April 2003 when the first Banias
are availbale.

My Dell just decided to stop working, it won’t turn on.

Found out that the whole laptop is reliant on a tiny screw, on the
underneath, that screws into the battery. The screw had come loose so I
removed one from the outer perimetre and used that instead. I think we’ve
got some spares at work, as I’ve found out that this is a common issue with
the Latitudes. Amazing, current must flow through it. Dodgey design.

Here’s what’s really scary:

“Bank of America Corp., one of the nation’s largest banks, said many
customers could not withdraw money from its 13,000 ATMs because of
technical problems caused by the attack, according to The Associated
Press. A spokeswoman, Lisa Gagnon, told the AP that the bank restored
service to nearly all ATMs by late Saturday afternoon and that
customers’ money and personal information had not been at risk.”

applications!!!

Every MS EULA states that the product should not be used for
mission-critical purposes.

Re: SQL Server 2000 worm slows Internet

Interesting…I had not heard about this problem until I had difficulty today
playing spades online. It’s very odd, I can connect SOMETIMES, but then lose
my connection a few minutes later. It was fine all day yesterday.

However, the credit card authorization network was down at a store I went to
yesterday…and when I bought my new car, the dealer’s computer couldn’t
talk to Ford Motor Credit at all…

Guess it is a pretty big deal.

Re: SQL Server 2000 worm slows Internet

I doubt they use MS-SQL rather they have a very slow ATM network under
normal internet conditions and due to the extra traffic on the net there
ATMS were timing out during the verification portion of the transaction
thereby shutting down the whole process.

I have a Bank of America ATM card and there ATM’s are incredibly slow on a
good day so the above may be what happened. I know that the OS on there
ATM’s is OS/2 because I saw one that had rebooted once and it halted at the
OS/2 prompt screen and it outlined the version of OS/2 in use right on the
screen in front of me.

most network administrators only fix the security problems as they occur
rather than keeping it uptodate from future flaws.
