i’m new here but i have already noticed a few musician types around.
obviously muni is a sport activity but what else are you into?
i’m not really sporty although i used to play football (soccer). i play guitar mainly. electric, acoustic, i’m learning bass and i “play” drums on a practice pad a lot. i enjoy painting murals and drawing cartoons.
i like watching sports, soccer mostly, x games, olympics and so on but really i’m more artistic than sporty. and more musical than painty.
one thing i find odd, watching x games, or any extreme sport often inspires me to push harder at guitar.
so what else is everyone into.
Hi Milkjam! My sporty side is mainly non-competitive, really more about recreation and exercise. I’m just competitive enough to hate losing, and when I compete I tend to lose. Running, bicycling, and speedskating came before unicycling. And I like hitting golf balls although I’m not really into playing golf.
Guitar has always been my number one musical instrument, but I make the effort to try to play other things with strings, and now and then to try to learn a little bit of piano. This month–prompted by Cinco de Mayo I think–I’ve watched so many Tex-Mex accordion videos that my Google ads are displayed in Spanish now. (I’ve only gotten an Android GCF button accordion app so far, no real ones yet.)
And race cars…
You might include “techy” and “tinkerer” beside “sporty” and “artistic”. I like knowing how things work and fixing/customizing/building too.
Photos attached: My fake-Italian mandolin, a cigar box non-pedal steel guitar that I built and I’m just starting to learn to play, and me in a friend’s Lola at an autocross many years ago.
I killed your thread, Milkjam. I’m sorry.
I’ll try to breathe some life into it.
I enjoy tai-chi and have been practicing for over 20 years. I don’t consider it a sport and it does qualify as a martial art but I don’t consider myself arty or sporty, I have never cared for team sports.
I butcher songs on my acoustic guitar but it is primarily for my enjoyment only and the apparent annoyance of my son who rolls his eyes at me and asks me how much longer I will be ruining what is on TV. I’m a hack of a chord-strummer with a voice somewhere between Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan. Not what you would call mellifluous by any stretch.
When I was a bit younger (before my last child was born) I spent some years touring on my motorcycle. I used to love that feeling of leaning into the on-ramp and hitting the open road. I found it very meditative.
I have done a bit of traveling in my life and spent some time on 3 continents and that is something I very much enjoy but it has been hampered by taking on the responsibilities of parenthood (again).
I enjoy art but the only thing I’ve ever done that I felt was artistic was a bit of metal sculpture. I did enjoy that and got some positive feedback from people who saw it. I think it was the fire aspect that really piqued my interest.
So, I do some other things but don’t know as I fit in either the sporty or the arty categories. How about eclectic? Perhaps ADHD?
Cheers
