I need your help. I am the President of an adult Flag Football League in my area. On paper, it is VERY HARD for me to design a schedule for the entire season. Is there a computer program or easy system to arrange the schedule for sporting events?
Our league will have between 12 and 14 teams. I won’t know for sure the number of teams until November 4th. We play games on Tuesday night, so only one time per/week. On the Tuesday game night, we can play 6 games. Therefore, 12 teams can play each game night. With 12 teams, it is easy to understand that the regular season will last for 11 weeks, and they play each other one time over that 11 week period. With 13 or 14 team, the season will have to expand by 1 or 2 weeks, with one or two teams having a bye each week.
Help!!! That is where it gets to confusing for me. I have 7 1/2 years of college, but it is in health and wellness, not mathamatics. Can you help me?
If I can just assign each team a number, 1 thru 12, 1 thru 13, or 1 thru 14. Then put the numbers on the season grid, I’d have my potential schedules for what every number of teams we end up with. But I get totally confused about week 4 when doing this on paper. Again, HELP!!!
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

i have no idea
i just replied to bump this thread back to the top
have u considered laying out your grid and making lil’ slips of paper with the team name (or the numbers) on?
it will at least allow u to try different combinations without having to erase everything every time u want to make a change
Thanks for the reply GILD, and the bump. What a coincidence, just last night, I was able to get all the scheduling totally worked out. I ended up using a service off the web called “Scheduler163” from www.leagueusa.com
I found this service by doing a search on the web, imagine that. :D They took the stress out of creating a schedule. I highly recommend this service. --chirokid--
now sit back and wait for the coaches to start complaining, the washed-out games and the cancellations that cause schedulers to age before their time
i remember working in a restaurant and battling to work out a schedule for the staff that would ensure everyone working the amount of hours according to the labour laws, give us enough people to run the restaurant and one off-day per week per person
eventually we just closed the restaurant on mondays
We are expanding the league size by 40% this year, so I imagine the complaints won’t be long in coming. But that is what makes it so fun, and challenging, to be the League President. --chirokid–
