spoke nipples

OK, first of all, PLEASE dont turn this thread into a big joke cause I really need help. Well, i have recently noticed that one of my spoke nipplesis stripped. My questions are:

Is this something that is important to get fixed right away?

If so, where can I buy nipples, cause UDC doesnt have them?

How easy is it to replace, can someone maybe write up how to do it?

Thanks!

hehe nipples:p

Oh my god serios!!!

what stripped? the threads inside, or the outside got rounded and you can no longer turn it with a spoke wrench?

If the inside threads got stripped, you should probably replace it ASAP, cause it won’t be able to hold tension, and might hurt your wheel.

If the nipple got rounded, it’s not a big deal, the worst is that you won’t be able to true the wheel. However, you should replace it eventually.

If the outside is rounded then you might be able to take it off with a screw driver throught the other side of your rim (if the spoke isn’t going too far through it). Any bike shop can get you nipples. You can probably get them from Danscomp.com or places like that.

Alright, thanks guys. I probably wont replace it until the next time I ahev to do any work on my wheel, but for now it will be fine. Just the outside is rounded so I guess its not a big deal. Thanks for keeping under control (most of you  )

A rounded nipple is not a problem by itself, but do replace it if it
is preventing you from tensioning and truing the wheel. When you do
replace it, be sure to oil the threads and the rim eyelet so it will
turn easily. If you can’t easily turn a nipple, lubricate it with
penertating oil (e.g. WD40). If it still won’t budge, try pushing
sideways on the rim to unload the tension on the spoke (clamp down the
unicycle frame or have someone hold it while you push).

Aluminum nipples are adequate if you are careful, but brass one are
stronger. A set of brass nipples (one wheel’s worth) weight about 20g
(less than an ounce) more than aluminum.
