Spins and piroutte's

Hello.

Has anybody actually completed a spin? A piroutte? What is the difference? Also
can I get advise on how to complete either? Thanks all.

A spin is where you ride around in little circles, your center of mass rotating
around one point.

A pirouette is when you spin down to a single spot, where the tire is just
grinding on one spot and you’re not pedaling. Of course this one is harder, and
you have to spin to get into it.

To make spins, practice riding in small circles with smooth, even pedaling.
At first, you will probably have jerky pedaling with lots of little stops.
As you work it down into a smooth, continuous motion, you’ll feel yourself
start to spin.

Re: Spins and piroutte’s

Yes, there were several spins in the public show at the National Unicycle
Convention, and when I was younger and rode a smaller unicycle, I was able to do
them. A local rider here does them by grabbing a person or object to get the
angular momentum, but the ones done on the stage at the NUC seemed to be done by
going into a curve and then pulling in the arms to increase the rotational
speed. I do not know the difference between a spin and a piroutte.

I would try riding in a tight circle and stopping forward movement and pulling
in the arms while still turning.

Good luck, I wish I could still do them, and maybe I can learn again.

Eddie Moffat can pirouette. you’ll have to ask him how. his e.mail is on tha
Austin One Wheelers site. http://berlin.home.texas.net/aow/index.htm

Re: Spins and piroutte’s

I’ve done up to six piroutte’s in place without moving the cranks, but I have
trouble trying to teach piroutte’s. John Foss gives good advice on breaking down
the steps. I’m also a professional ballet dancer which has helped my turns
greatly, head spotting, something we do in ballet, keeps you from getting dizzy.
The only bad thing is that I go through lot’s of tires from turning so much.

Jus’ love this it’s the one trick I can do.

a) Ride along and close to a solid object as if to calmly pass by.

b) At the last minute grab object, arrest forward motion, whiplash back
against object.

c) Spin, Spin Spin. (finary binary is an appropriate track), or

d) lie on the floor- go to a) repeat 500 times.

e) cry.

It is good when it works.

Unstable and unable.
