Spinal meningitis

Hey all,
A co worker of mine was just diagnosed with viral spinal meningitis, anyone

since I work with him… Appreciate any help.

Re: Spinal meningitis

This is very contagious. It’s also deadly. You don’t get symptoms until
it’s full blown.

I took a friend of mine to the ER back in '97. He was having seizures
and all kinds of other things. I stayed by his hospital bed all night.
The next morning, the doctor diagnosed him with meningitis. When they
told me they said “we suggest that you admit yourself, meningitis is
very contagious and you’ve been with him all night.” Two minutes later,
the doctor came in with lab results and said “well, it’s not
meninigitis!”… grrr

Anyway, make sure your work environment is cleaned thoroughly. Don’t go
back until it is. And don’t go near your co-worker.

Contagious? not really. Viral meningitis is the “Better” of the 2
meningitis’is… that will usually just go away, he probably isn;t even on
any antibiotics or anything at all… you haven’t swapped any blood or shared
any needles at all with him have you? hehe

… Oh fuck me I’m a moron… it is very contageous… (I was out and had a
couple of beers tonight…) … the second I posted the post I
was like “oh shit” … Ok… Viral meningitis is the “better” of the 2
meningitis’s to have, that part is correct (though some biased drug
companies will disagree on that)… No antibiotics or anything for treatment
because there is no bacteria… Bacterial meningitis is bad because so much
of it has built up such a resistance to the antibiotics and can grow so
incredibly fast… but yes yes yes contagious as hell, but since its viral
there is probably no need to go on preventative antibiotics, however if it
makes you feel safer I’m sure your doctor will give you some if you call
him… make sure they BLEACH the place to get rid of any virus in
there… But I’m sure the board of health or whatever it is in your state
knows that

Re: Spinal meningitis

It is contagious as you have already been informed by others. I will add
this to the advice you have so far received. To make yourself and your
co-workers feel safe I would simply contact the local health department and
ask them what should be done about workplace contamination in the case of
viral spinal meningitis make sure you have the patients name, and the name
of the hospital where he or she is being treated because they will ask those
questions, they will need to verify the case before making recommendations.
