Speaking of fire Yoopers....

This happened late last night.
I knew one of them, from Key Club…he was the officer for my commitee…
School has been hell today…there are practically no seniors here…all three were well liked and respected by just about everyone who knew them…
During first period, Key Club was called down, and almost everyone was crying. Most of my day has been spent trying to console people…it just brings your own mortality into question…
We hear stories all the time about teens speeding, and then losing control of the car, and then their lives, but this is the first time it’s ever really hit home…just thinking about what it would be like, to walk into the hallway where me and my friends sit in the morning, and have one or more of them not be there.
It’s a scary thought

I’m really sorry to hear that news. That’s just terrible. Sounds as if your school is responding best it can with counsellors.

Hang in there.

Personally, I am mostly ok, because I didn’t know any of them that well, and I only knew one by name…it’s mostly just seeing everyone upset…
I have honestly never seen the entire school this subdued

I wonder what the probability is that a student will have another student die sometime during their 4 years in high school? Say you go to a school with 1000 students and you go to high school for four years. What is the probability that one or more of those 1000 students will die sometime during the four years due to a car crash, some other accident, or medical problem? I think the probability would be higher than what people expect. Teens are mortal even if they think otherwise.

It is sad and tragic when it happens. A friend in my fraternity during college died due to a work related accident (he was working for the road repair crew over summer break) while I was in college. Then right after college I did a cross-country bike ride and two college age riders were killed during the ride. It happens and it’s always sad.
