SPD?

Has anyone every tried using toe-clips or spd’s on their unicycles?

Apparently, spd's are very easy to get out of once you get used to
them (well that's what my friend said...) but I'm a little hesitant
    about trying them 'cause a) he doesn't unicycle b) I don't own a set
that would fit me c) I've only been riding for a few month. Thanx in
    advance :)

There is a guy England (Leo, from the Cheltenham and Gloucester unicycle hockey
team) who used to have SPDs on his uni but he took them off after a couple of
nasty falls. His conclusion was that the way that you come off a uni does not
release the SPDs. He was an experienced SPD user on bikes. He still uses
toe-clips on one of his unis - sometimes even while playing hockey, but they are
cut-down rigid toe-clips and easier to release.

I hope this information helps and prevents a few accidents… ;^)

Yeah, my brother has strap on toe clips, and special racing pedals (I’m afraid
I don’t know the terminology). He says it’s almost suicidal. For a start you
have to bend down to get the second one positioned just to get your foot in.
The problem is that the pedal hangs upside down because of the clip. He can
get around that because one of his pedals is stiff, and won’t rotate of its
own accord.

RE: SPD

How about POWERGRIPS. They are a wide strap going diagonally accross the pedal,
and secure the foot as it is twisted in. No straps, no clips, uses any shoe type
you want, and very quick and easy to get in and out off. You use a standard
pedal, so you have the choice of strapping in or turning the pedal upside down.

I think these would be a much saner proposition on a unicyle than clipless
pedals, and a hell of a lot cheaper (about $15 US), and they can really
grip tight.
