This is off topic but is this the list that’s getting me so much spam including
the recent chance to buy porno videos?
On topic…
I recently said here that I was going to get a used 24" sem. I did and I love
it. At first I was a bit put off by it. It seems every bit as heavy as my cycle
“piece of %%#$@#” pro if not even heavier. Once I got the two of them together I
found that they were about the same weight. The sem has half inch shorter crank
arms so you have less leverage thus it feels heavier, taking more force to get
going or stop but it sure is nicer at speed not to be flailing my feet around
trying to keep them on rthe pedals.
I was also put off by the fork construction. I felt that the stamped sheet metal
was inherently weaker than cast and machined pieces or even tubular steel. I
have since changed my mind. The sem fork is great. It is very strong and must be
about as light as steel construction could get.
When I took the seat off to adjust the height I was amazed to find how heavy it
is. The seat post is rugged (ie heavy!!), too rugged for me.
All in all it’s a remarkable machine.
I guess I’ve gone on long enough. It’s great not to be sqeaking and groaning
along like the cycle pro. Now I silently glide through the park. And the seat,
it’s not exactly comfy, but it’s not the worst and it’s durable, better in both
regards than the cycle pro. Whover designed the seat on that thing should be
forced to ride a few miles with no seat at all!
Oh, and by the way, Sem emailed me that the 24" and the 26" are the same except
for the wheel.
This is off topic but is this the list that’s getting me so much spam including
the recent chance to buy porno videos? On topic… I must say that this list is
the only one of about 20 that I am on that is the origin of spam…any clues
from the organisers as to why ?
James.
On topic (eeek kinda ;)
Just my twice yearly mail asking if there is anyone from Oxford region on
this list who wants to join a hockey team (in Oxford obviously !)
Cheers

Ken Fuchs is the administrator of this news group and thje IUF Treasurer-
Secretary. Thanks to him, we have this wonderful newsgroup. That is also why,
when someone electronically steals our addresses, his name comes in. Ken is not
sending those messages. Right now he probably is in Germany, UNICON IX, with no
access to the NET. > >Other than that I guess it’s because the list posts go to the newsgroup as >well. So anyone trawling for spam addresses in there can get them, just like >any other newsgroup. No need to apologize. You have done nothing wrong. Better asked than kept
within. Nobody likes the spams. They are the ones that should apologize.

As you’ve discovered, the Sem frame is very strong - I’ve never heard of anybody
breaking one. Anyone else heard of such a thing? If so, what was it being used
for at the time?

Agreed.

The SemCycle seat must be the easiest to convert to the “air cushion” as
discussed here many times before. Try it - you’ll be glad you did.

Aha, just as I suspected.

Not an organiser but hey, I feel like rambling
A while ago there were a lot of spam postings the appeared to be from Ken
Fuchs (sp?). I’m wasn’t sure about the message headers…were those messages
really from him or is it someone faking his identity? Just that there were quite
a lot of ones coming from him or someone pretending to be him, including a few
for adult web sites etc as I remember.
Not accusing anyone at all, I’m just wondering really. Anyone more knowledgeable
care to shed some light on the topic? Ken?
Other than that I guess it’s because the list posts go to the newsgroup as well.
So anyone trawling for spam addresses in there can get them, just like any other
newsgroup. What a bummer

Just thought I’d apologise for bringing that whole deal up…I genuinely didn’t
know much about the situation, so I’m sorry if I’ve offended anyone at all. I
certainly didn’t mean to, okay? I get it now, Ken is innocent

They were definitely faked - Ken is a major contributor to this group and he
would never do anything like that. I assume he complained about someone spamming
the list and they decided to use his address.
Let’s start a “Ken is innocent” campaign.

I don’t think you’ve done anything that you need to apologise for - well,
nothing you’ve told us about anyways.
There were probably lots of people on the list or reading the newsgroup that
were wondering the same thing as yourself so you’ve presented a good
opportunity to clear things up. If Ken has been offended by anyone, I’d guess
it’d be the spammers.

That’s cool to hear…I didn’t think it really would be him, so it’s good to
hear it wasn’t. Whoever it was though, it’s a nasty trick. These spammers
just get worse and worse Well…at least the good thing is that all
they’re really doing is making a bad name for themselves. I know I never buy
anything from spammers, and hopefully there are a lot of others who feel the
same. Some comfort?

The mailing list is a feed of the rec.sport.unicycling newsgroup, and the
newsgroups are full of spam.
