Sorry kids. It's for your own good.

Sorry kids. Looks like you won’t be able to access unicyclist.com from school or public libraries if the Senate goes along with what the House just passed.

Web sites like Amazon.com and MySpace.com may soon be inaccessible for many people using public terminals at American schools and libraries, thanks to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Linky

Sorry bout that.

that’s interesting. At my school we have a pretty strict web filter that already limits myspace but unicyclist is still accessible. I would expect for kids to find several ways to get past the filter, there are already a couple easy ways.

anything with a forum my school shuts down… I couldnt get here anyway

Maybe if all the minors are really quite and don’t ever turn RSU/JC into a chat room we can stay under their radar.

…Or we could just pay attention in class and learn.

Oh wait, we’re talking about US public schools? Nevermind then, keep on surfing.

Is The American Library association still fighting to keep porn in libraries while this goes on?

Does this mean IRC could become popular? How will they stop the use of web proxies?

It’s not about fighting porn. It’s about stopping sexual predators, because they didn’t exist until the Internet–it’s all Al Gore’s fault.

Hey, MySpace is useful for researching things like bands and radio DJs. That’s important stuff that you can find there on MySpace. Legitimate research.

Yeah, I use myspace for people to listen to my music, or to eaily gather all my friends with a bulliten instead of calling them all up. Though the phone is more reliable.

I just hate the people on myspace who try to get as much friends as they can and then dressing all slutty to attract more people to add them.

my school uses surf control to block what we can view. I take it under my own control to disable this nasty filter so I can view what I want. another way is to just make your own proxy:D

HA…I just graduated…Now i dont have to deal with the stupid school filters:D

It’s to protect us from the 50 year old, hairy, beer-drinking men impersonating 21 year old women.

In all seriousness though, that’s not trhat much worse than it is now at my school…we can’t access much anyway…somehow this is still allowed through the filters though.

I wonder if Niemöller was on MySpace?

vtunnel.com

you are a men now… I’m proud of you

I guess it might be too much to ask for you to actually explain yourself, wouldn’t it?

A link would’ve been nice.
Would’ve saved me typing those three pesky Ws.
And the . .

Oh well.

Just going around the filter doesn’t cahgne anything. This is bad law that let’s a few bad apples spoil the bunch. Most libraries and schools now. Require a parental consent for minors to use the internet. If parents would monitor their own kids activities there wouldn’t be any problem. Hopefully the American Libraries assoication fights this.

Here’s the ALA’s position. It opposes DOPA.

Nah, that would mean parents would have to start being responsible parents, instead of depending on other people to do it for them.
