I was just chatting to James Potter [post=656039]about music over in MR[/post] when I started thinking about songs that have always had an ‘uplifting’ (I hate that word but can’t think of a better one - mood-enhancing is something else) effect on me.
I’ve known for a long time that no matter how bad my mood, if I lie down and listen all the way thru Crosby, Stills and Nash’s [post=656039]‘Suite: Judy Blue Eyes’[/post], I’m in a good mood by the time I get up.
This is rather odd as I’m not the greatest CSN fan. I like most of their stuff that I’ve heard, but I wouldn’t describe myself as a fan.
But that song…
I’ve also found that there seems to be nothing in this world that is so bad that a single B [/B]listening to Live’s ‘Lightning Crashes’ can’t make it (at least a little bit) better.
There are a couple of other tunes as well (Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’ in it’s entirety, and on headphones, and Albinoni’s Adagio in G-minor chief among them), but you get the basic idea.
Here’s a different twist than you’re probably thinking, but I watched Carrie Underwood sing the National Anthem before the game last weekend. I always feel a deep sense of patriotism and thankfulness whenever I hear our national anthem.
a lot of John Lennon songs do that for me…mostly Imagine. that song is simply wonderful.
also, but possibly in a different way, the song Semi-Charmed Life, by Third Eye Blind.
Another CSN song that works for me is “Southern Cross”
This is a great topic.
Here are some of my favorite “uplifters.”
“Cool Change” by Little River Band
“Like a Rock” by Bob Seeger
“Against the Wind” by Bob Seeger
“Dancing Boy” by Harry Chapin
“Thunder Road” by Bruce Springsteen
A blummin’ good choice, sir! I don’t know if you’ve heard it or not but I can also recommend “Heaven”; it’s an incredibly uplifting song whatever your views on that kind of thing are.
Some great upbeat music that I’ve been listening to lately is on the album sunshine barato by The Mosquitos
Boombox is my pick me up jam for the day. Nothing like a good song to cheer you up on a rainy day.
also, If You Want To Sing Out, by Cat Stevens. that one always makes me feel really, really good about life in general. most songs by Cat Stevens do actually…Cat Stevens is my main man.
RHCP, One Beat by Sleater-Kinney, Evangeline by Bad Religion, various other Bad Religion, and various Rise Against, mostly from Revolutions per Minute.
