that is wrong, you do not need a wide tire for street, i ride a 20x2.1 primo wall tire at 75psi for street and can hop just as high if not higher as i could on a trials tire. And i use a triple wall rim so the wheel is just as strong if not stronger than the alex dx 32
ooo thats a rare burn on james… and i accually ride an even smaller wheel for all my trials and street needs and it works fine…

Seems to me that a 16" uni would be hard for spins cause you’d have to pedal so fast, but maybe I’m wrong. I shall try a spin on my bother’s 16 incher tomorrow and update ya! Hmm…now that I think about it, I also think it would be hard if you were going to jump off of something into riding backwards because you have to pedal fast and you might not be able to pedal fast enough with that tiny wheel. Maybe different sized cranks would help?!
THAT my freinds, is a 16" tire!
i wonder if it would fit the alex rim…
how high can you hop, and how much does your uni weigh? because I know that someone like Ryan Atkins certainly could not hop as high on a 20x2.1 tyre as he does on a 20x2.5 tyre. so if you’re only hopping about 12 inches on both, then… yeah.
Can anyone awnser my other questions?
I am wondering how well the standard 16" rim will hold up?
can it take 3-4 foot drops? To me it seems small enough that if you keep it ture and tensioned alot it should hold to the abuse.
Can a standard steel rim like that be hardened?
Is there a difrence in hub widths between the Qu-Ax and the normal torker cx hub?
Will i need difrent size spokes?
Are there any stronger rims than the torker can be bought ?
Are Jimmy Cs wider than the standard pedals on the torker?
i can pedal grab picnic table easy, and get onto handrails all using a rolling hop. my uni weighs about 12.5lbs
To answer your question about the big apple tire check the schwalbe site - 16x2" but remember it is a slick tire.
If you are serious about making a 16" trials, the alex rim dk posted about is only 16 hole but is double walled, the alex rim you posted about comes in 36 hole but is single walled,
you best try find a 36 hole double walled rim - find out if alex do one.
the tire you posted i doubt would fit in a alex rim and IF it did it would have a lot of fold over, probably would weigh alot, and would increase your wheel diameter closer to 20" again.
what lenght cranks were you planning on using - cotterless?
why dont you use the koxx-one splined hub with 110 cranks?
still dont know if a 16" trials would be practical, but would love to see one being made
DARN, Wish i had known that Knoxx had 110 splined.

Sounds good,
btw, it must be nice to have access to alot of money.
it was actuly only like 275
Seems like a 16" would be good for unispins, footplants, crankflips and the like, not sure if it would work for 180s and 360’s or not.
About the skinny tire thing,in Universe 2 It looks like Dan heatons tire on the green unicycle he has is smaller than a regular trials tire,it also is smooth.Looks like he might have it at a higher tire pressure too.
Does anybody body know what tire he has?
Infact i just got my tires, they came the day they shiped!
they are 2.125s, they loook like they will work
Correct. You do not need an anything tire for any sort of riding. You can do Trials on Troxel if you really want to, at least for a little while. A standard Coker wheel can hold up to thousands of miles of abuse.
Also Dibbles points out that you don’t really need the Trials tire to jump upward, as much as you want it for landing drops. Yes, a tire with more air volume gives you more spring, but a smaller tire will also be lighter, so it might nearly even out.
As for Ryan Atkins, nobody really knows what he can do if he really wants to. I bet he could do some great ups on a skinnier tire, but he destroys full-on Trials wheels, so why would he want to?
Yes and no. What you will find is that your cranks are so long (at 127 + Q factor) that you can barely keep them off the ground when riding straight. It will be difficult to turn without your feet hitting the ground. This will make it much harder to get into spins because you need to build up rotational momentum. You don’t really need speed, but you do need to be able to turn smoothly.
Shorter cranks (if there are any), minimal Q factor, and smaller pedals will help.
I don’t know if anybody asked this yet, but why a 16"? You’ll have to make numerous compromises on parts because there are fewer choices. Do you really need a smaller wheel? I imagine the greatest reward will be lightness, but how much? And at what cost of being able to keep your pedals off the ground?
If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend you do some riding around on a “regular” 16" unicycle. Note the length of the cranks, the Q factor between the pedals, and how much they touch the ground. Keep this in mind for whatever you’re putting together. Without rideability, it may not be worth the cost and effort.
I’ve got a 16" CX on the way for free, and I’ve got 2 Duro 16X2.125 tires laying around, and I’ve got a schwinn seat lying around, so we’ll see how that go’s…
So Evan, what’s the update? Miserable failure or cosmic coolness?
Never got built, Never found splined cranks short enough.
holds back laughter
that might be some things you’d want to check before…
serious
keep at it I guess… don’t let all that stuff lie all over the place and collect dust… you payed good money for them.
Ha really? I thought you had some on the way…
How short we talkin about? Couldnt they just be…a little long?
