I just went out on the Carslisle II yesterday which is a foot ferry that has been running the Puget Sound here in Washinton since 1917. I thought I would post some pics from both it and the Turner Joy, a mothballed warship that played a huge role in the Vietnam War. It is now a floating museum that you can freely explore with all the original artifacts. It was made the year my dad was born, too, which was really cool. I wish these pretty pictures were higher rez, but all I have now is a 2 Megapixel Olympus D-390. This is of the Turner Joy:
oooooh, those are pretty
i knew i would atleast see his face once in these pictures is it possible not to include yourself in every picture post? lol whatever
You made me very sad just now Tyler. I miss Seattle and Tacoma and every town along the Sound now. Thanks for the pics, I saw those ferries when I was in Seattle, I really wanted to go on one, but time and money wouldn’t let me. You Washington dwellers have no idea how lucky you are. You should get a picture of the Stalen statue, that would be kickass and I would respect you forever more.
Tyler,
Thanks for the pictures. They bring back memories.
We had a great time at UNICON in Seattle in 2002 and even got to ride one of the ferries over to Bainbridge Island. Loads of fun and great scenery in that area. We love the Pacific northwest and would love to visit again someday.
As we were waiting to board the ferry, we saw several hugh starfish below the waterline clinging to the massive wooden supports on the dock.

I spent a week in the Seattle area in 1999 for a family reunion trip. (Most of the family is from Ohio.)
We rode a car ferry and another ferry in the area of downtown Seattle. The fun part about the passenger ferry was feeding the seagulls. When the ferry was traveling into the wind, seagulls would glide by. You could hold food (in this case, chips and crackers) out in your hand and the gulls would glide by and take the food out of your hand. Sometimes they would peck pretty hard when grabbing the food.
The Pacific Northwest is a very pretty part of our country.
I spent another week there last summer on a business trip. I took my unicycle and managed to ride at Gas Works Park.
I might be seeing this when I go to seattle. Looks pretty cool, tyler, check your pms.

PS. pic res is fine, lol, 2 MP is awesome
did you get to fire any sweet missiles?
The statue is Lenin. It is located in the Fremont neighborhood in Seattle. Fremont is the artsy community in Seattle, but even there the statue is controversial. Lenin wasn’t a good guy.
Picture time
The ferries are a lot less fun when you are trying to get somewhere at a specific time and you have to plan your day around the ferry schedule. Driving in a hurry through unpredictable Seattle traffic to catch a ferry that you are probably barely going to be able to make is also no fun. And yes, I have been the very first car on a ferry. What that means is that I missed being the very last car on the ferry. I usually pack a unicycle or a book with me just in case I end up waiting a long time because there are more cars than space on the ferry. The ferries are fun at first but that quickly wears off.
