Not the sort of video I usually make, but this is a local event I went to over the weekend. Crazy Englishmen racing down the nearest thing to a hill we have in Lincolnshire. We take everything rather less seriously than the Americans, apart from tea. Given that there are a few eccentrics and mad engineers in the unicycling world, I thought I’d share it.
Nice video! I like the car with the campingwaggon …
Best regards,

Thanks.
My favourite was the chicken coop, which loudly “shat” a burst of feathers outthe back after it went over the ramp.
too bad the video has been removed.
I got copyright threats from the owners of three music clips, even though they were not the full songs. As I had included pictures of the artists in the video, I just deleted it. I may try to re-do the video when time allows. I was quite proud of it.
BETTER!
Are they timed? With a winner? Or is it just a show?
It’s a race. All the soapboxes (or is the plural “soapbices”?) do three runs down the hill. It’s a very shallow decline, with a low ramp (about 6 inches/150mm) at the bottom. Mainly it’s just for fun but they do announce a winner. You can see that some of the cars are purely novelty (e.g. the church, or the one with the caravan) but others seem to be a genuine attempt to be fastest.
Looks like it’s the kind of contest where there is also judging for design/art/outlandishness as well. Tom Holub competes in the annual Kinetic Sculpture Race in Eureka, CA (I think). Part of it is about completing the course, which includes road, offroad and water, but most of the entries seem to be more focused on entertainment and there are prizes for various things, only one of which is the fastest finisher.
Loved the creativeness and fun on your derby cars. Pretty opposite of the “original” race, which I believe is done by kids, with a focus on speed only, which makes it all about aerodynamics and reduction of friction. Yawn.
Interestingly, your replaced video led to a clip from Top Gear where they saluted the Reliant Robin, a 3-wheeled car with a propensity for tipping over. Hilarious! I really miss that show.
