So... What got you guys out of unicycling?

I don’t ride 10% as much as I used to, I don’t really lack the motivation, I lack the spare time, 3 young kids kind of killed my ability to take some time for myself.
Moving back to a cold country like France didn’t help either.

Unicon is a big motivation booster though.

What made you guys slow down on your riding ?

In 2004 I rode across the George Washington Bridge from New Jersey into New York and then down the west side of Manhattan with a guy named Patrick who had just finished riding from San Francisco, California to the east coast. About 3000 miles.

The guy was fit and I was not and I messed up my knee trying to keep up with him. Then I started to put on a crap load of weight and from there it was all downhill. I pretty much stopped riding and continued to use my knee - which does still actually hurt a bit - as an excuse for years.

In February 2010 my wife joined Weight Watchers and I piggy-backed on the program. We lost a collective 100 lbs and I started riding again last summer. and haven’t stopped yet.

Juggling.

I still unicycle a bit, but I juggle a lot. I’m also training to learn Chinese pole and trapeze, along with some basic tumbling and hand stands.

School and ponies.

Wrestling season.

Every winter when wrestling season comes around I slow down my riding to literally like 15 minutes a week if I’m lucky… I just can’t wait until March when I can finally rekindle the fire.

i use to work the dog shift at my old job and when i came home everyone was asleep and i just youtubed random stuff and came across some great unicycling videos.

after that i went to a local circus and got them to teach me how to unicycle and i haven’t looked back since (they can teach you heaps of stuff) http://circusavalon.com.au/

I think you missed a couple of words in the title.
“So… What got you guys out of unicycling?”

This would have been the proper thread

Whoa man. Pullin’ the ole’ switcheroo on us.
Whoa.

Unicyclist.com. Now I’m sitting in front of a computer all the time, instead of being outside riding. :frowning:

That’s not 100% untrue, but just kidding.

As awesome as this community has been for me it’s also been really bad to me. Since NAUCC '09 I discovered that roughly 98% of the riders I had considered good people and decent friends were actually extremely two-faced and not fun to be around at all. That said, I think once you’ve started riding you can never really ‘get out’ of unicycling. It stays with you, and at times it’s still enjoyable but sometimes it just loses it’s appeal. Especially when you stop progressing and start realizing you’re seen as an idiot and/or poser who tries too hard by almost everyone you know.

And that is why I make sure to act a fool online and in person.

It’s a good strategy.

I never learned to ride in the first place, it’s all been one big lie.

Bad weather takes my motivation away but so does using my unicycle as a mode of transport to work and back. Yes it’s unicycling but I’d like to practice more tricks and improve my skills which I don’t have so much time or energy for and it’s dark in the evenings etc etc.

since when is france a cold climate, other than this year

It’s all relative, I used to live in Africa for a few years…
