time to switch out of ‘summermode’ and back into ‘schoolmode’
when does school start again for you?
-August 24th for me, 28th for one class.
what grade are you going into?
-I just graduated from 12th grade (senior year of highschool) and I’m finishing up my AA in Psychology at the community college before going to UCF to major in engineering (48 credits down, 12 to go).
what classes are you taking?
-Chemistry I and Lab, Sociology, Statistics (maybe cultural anthropology or social problems, add/drop isn’t over for a while, so I might add one of those)
are you excited?
-Yes I am. It will be good to get back into a routine that doesn’t involve me waking up at 6am and working until 3pm (this job ends when school starts)
what do you plan to do next year/next summer/for the rest of your life?
-Next summer I plan to go to NAUCC (wherever it is) and I’d also like to surf in Costa rica and hike the (part of the) Appalachian trail.
-I plan to be at either University of Central Florida or University of Florida and majoring in engineering.
-If all goes well, by the time I’m done with all of my schooling I will be making/designing prosthetic body parts (hands, feet, arms, legs, eyes, etc.) that will work as well -if not better- than the actual (read; natural) parts.
I go back Sep 1st and will be a Junior 11th grade. I don’t want to go to school yet and I plan on having atleast three study halls everyday becuase I have several extra credits:D
This year will be my senior year and I took 6 classes during the summer that I finished at home to help me graduate early. I plan to graduate at least half way through this year, take a nice little break while having a job then start with college.
I plan to major in music, most likely gonna go towards the production and studio courses instead of orchestra stuff.
Other than that, I plan to have fun, work hard and make the best of everything.
when does school start again for you?
-August 21st…two weeks.
what grade are you going into?
-Junior year of high school.
what classes are you taking?
-Pre-cal, Physics, U.S. History, English 4, Spanish 4, and Psych 1 are all my IB classes; other classes are Government, Economics, and Advanced Webmastering, just for fun.
are you excited?
-Meh. More excited for the football season and seeing all my friends every day again.
what do you plan to do next year/next summer/for the rest of your life?
Not really sure yet on any of those…I’ll play it by ear.
I’m not sure when or if school will ever start again for me. The tuition subsidy my employer provides is maxed out for the year, and I just found out that I am not admitted to the graduate program I applied for. They must not have liked the transcripts from my years of youthful rebellion (assuming they’ve ended).
I actually feel pretty relieved to know that I will be free to learn as I please. School can be so very oppressive. I plan to continue my casual study of math with the occasional theological/philosophical diversion that is inevitable with a brother in seminary.
Other than enjoying cycling, my near term goal is to intensify my practice of the theremin, which I’ve been putting off because school took too much time. Most of all though, for the rest of my life, I plan to live well.
when does school start again for you?
-August 21st. I move up on the 17th or 18th.
what grade are you going into?
-Freshman in college.
what classes are you taking?
-A calculus one, a chemistry one, a chemistry lab, engineering 101, some strange culture class and a BS class… I’m sorry, I meant English.
are you excited?
-It should be fun. I have some big speakers for the dorm room.
what do you plan to do next year/next summer/for the rest of your life?
-Next summer I’m going to relax! Except that I’ll probably have a job again…
-Hopefully get an interesting job after college. I’m not too sure exactly what yet, but hopefully some form of engineering that involves working on stuff instead of doing paperwork all day.
when does school start again for you?
Like, the 30th…or something. I guess I should find out when it is exactly.
what grade are you going into?
12th!
what classes are you taking?
Trigenometry, French 3, Senior English, and Psychology. I’m special so I don’t need to take as many classes ( : Er, I don’t mean that I’m special…whatever…
are you excited?
Yeah, it’ll be cool to see people I haven’t seen all summer, and to learn stuff…I like learning stuff…
what do you plan to do next year/next summer/for the rest of your life?
I have no idea.
I think I’m gonna go join the Peace Corps before college though.
Then I’ll go to college…I don’t know why, though.
The Shelby County (Tennessee) school system started classes TODAY. Shelby County is in southwest Tennessee and encompasses all public schools in the county that are not part of the City of Memphis public schools.
when does school start again for you?
August 17! 10 more days…
what grade are you going into?
-11th
what classes are you taking?
-AP calculus, AP physics, AP language and composition, art, US history.
are you excited?
-Kinda, not about the school part, but I get out at lunch now! I am only taking 5 classes and I am starting at 7 instead of 8.
what do you plan to do next year/next summer/for the rest of your life?
Probably unicycle, I don’t know what else yet.
It’s cool to see that there are so many AP/IB students on these fora. I was in IB for two years, but then a new school opened which offered smaller classes and allowed me to take more college courses whilst still in highschool. The IB program is great, but apparently, according to some IB graduates that I’ve spoken with, there are a lot of colleges that do not even recognize it :o. I don’t know about in other states/countries, but here in FL if you graduate with an IB diploma you are guaranteed admission to any Florida college, and 75-100% of your tuition paid for through Bright Futures.
AP credits are pretty much accepted everywhere, but IB is much less common.
AP only counts in North America, but IB is recognized in many other countries. I wish I would’ve taken advantage of my IB diploma to study abroad. Maybe I wouldn’t have ended up a college dropout the first time around.
Brad starts back on Aug 22 and will be in 8th grade.
Mary starts back on Aug. 15 because teachers have to report a day early. She works in special ed.
Ben, Brad and I started back this morning with soccer conditioning camp. I will be the new freshman team coach. Brad has been working out with the high school players for a couple years now. Soccer tryouts will be next week and regular season practice starts on Aug. 21. We’ll have one week practice before our first match. The big Cooper test tomorrow morning.
There is a program at Rochelle High School that runs students out to Kishwaukee Community College (about 15 minutes away) during the school day for certain classes. Ben will be spending the first three periods of the day at Kish taking computer classes. He has a friend who almost took computer classes exclusively at Kish during his senior year. He got some kind of college credit for the classes he took over the last two years in H.S. so now he only has one year of classes left to get his Associates degree, one year out of H.S. It’s an amazing thing. Take college classes and let the high school system pay for them. What a way to save some money plus get ahead!
