ok this is kinda sad but i got my unicycle 2 years ago… on my birthday and i hurt my ankle in cheerleading the week after. i was kinda getting ok on it. but after getting hurt i stopped trying for… well a long time. and now i need help learning how again. whats the best way (going for it outside in the open) (using a rail) (in a hallway)… please give me your advice
Check my sig for the link there, it’s a record I’ve been keeping of my early days on the uni. I doubt it’ll answer all your questions, but it may help some.
are you one of those guh…guh…gurrrls?
kidding, umm i dont know. theres no one place thats right to practice. i started in my house and evetnually pushed off old reliable (the car). good luck.
Hey welcome!
Hallways are great if it’s not a problem with the adults in the house and there are no crawling babies and dogs to run over.
I learned holding onto a picket fence. A rail at a reach-able height will work well.
Do check out Dudwithasock’s journal it is great and has already helped other beginners.
Smooth pavement is useful, too.
Good luck. Post any questions you have, most everyone loves to help people out here!

i leanrt with a stick that i would find that day form a tree and a road… sat on the uni… rode till i feel and then repeatd the process… untill i could ride
Chase
how gourgeas(?) are you?
i learnt by holding my self b-tween 2 chairs and going till i fell. i found that quite effective, you relize you get further each time.
yea READ HIS JOURNAL…it helped me so much
O and welcome
I found that the easiest way to start was to hold onto the side of a car and push off on a slight downhill to help you keep your speed. Then, do it over and over and over and over again! good luck
What worked for me was to hold onto a deck railing and go around that until I could successfully do the straight parts with out falling. then I put some plastic outside chairs on my driveway and held onto those and worked on going further.
Hallways work great… just do it when the parents aren’t home.
There are some Learning to Ride links here in the links section. There are some tips and guides listed there.
Hallways work good if you have access to a hallways that you can risk getting banged up from the pedals or wheel and where the walls are close enough together that you can reach both walls. I used a short hallway when learning to wheel walk.
A dance rail is a good place if you have access to a dance floor. Any other similar railing or fence would also work.
If you’re going to practice indoors use plastic pedals and make sure your seat has bumpers on it. The idea is that you don’t want any metal parts to be able to hit the floor no matter how the unicycle lands. With precautions like that you can ride on a gym floor without causing any damage.
I got on at first by holing onto a skinny tree and then gunning it down the lawn until I fell. And then doing it again. And again. I made it a goal to not stop my uni practice for the day until I could do something better, whether it was ride in a straighter line, go a little bit farther, or mount easier.
