sleet!

My roommate came back from class this morning, cursing the weather. It had
started snowing early in the morning, and now it was sleeting. There was a
sludge of ice on the ground everywhere. Well, as soon as I heard his
description, I could think only one thing: perfect weather for unicycling!

So, I rode to class on my muni (24x3.0 Gazz tire). I got pretty decent
traction. The stuff on the ground was interesting. It was watery at the
bottom, with a layer of sludge, coated with ice on the top. Walkways had
footprints all over, so the thickness and density of the stuff changed all
over. It was one of the hardest, and by far the coolest surfaces I’ve ever
ridden on. Flat ground was a challenge, but so much fun. Down hills were
intetesting (a chance to glide here and there, without ever removing my
feet from the pedals), and up hills made me just wish I had a longer set of
cranks so I could better maintain control while going slowly.

The sleet eventually turned to rain, and the snow stuff has been melting a
little during the day. Hopefully, it’ll get cold agin, and freeze over,
making for an even greater challenge come morning.

I think I was the only person with a smile on his face when talking about
the weather today. It was definitely the best!

Oh yes, and my stupid comment when people ask me funny quesionts: “Well, it
does have all wheel drive.”

sometimes the snow lies in exactly the right way(just turning from snow into slush)
so that it is slippy underfoot but perfect for an onza or monty tyre. this happened fairly recently here, just as i was going to the comunity center where we practice our juggling etc.
after i arrived my henchman duncan arrived and said “i knew you where here already, no one else round here has a tyre like that”

when the weather is perfect people just drop their jaws at he fact you’re riding a unicycle on a surface they are nearly falling over in.

sleet!

Having gone to college in the snow belt, winter time with the snow, ice, sleet…is definately one of my favorite times to ride! Nothing beats uni-ing in shorts, a t-shirt, goggles and gloves during a blizzard!! my favorite thing to do is pick up speed and then stop my peddling so as to skid. That was also one of my greatest wipeouts, top speed on a 26", going down hill on a sheet of ice and then braking… the uni flew right out from underneith me and I landed straight on my back! wonderfully fun!!!
Enjoy the weather!

You bet!! I live in Northern Iowa, and we received about five inches
of snow yesterday. My ride home from work last night was fun, but hard.
My 24x2.6 Gazz is tough to plow through deep snow with.
Cheers…Joe

You need a tracked uni for deep snow.

That’s a good one… I’ll have to remember that for when I ride around campus in the snow. Yesterday there was quite a bit of snow on the ground too and I had no problem with it on the Coker.

“Well, it
does have all wheel drive.”

Sounds like a t-shirt slogan to me.

John Drummond shared a comment he once received that I really like. While with his uni, a man walked up and said, “Hey, nice set of wheel!”
