Skill level testing by video tape

Hello,

I’m looking to pass some unicycle skill levels by video tape.

I was wondering what the rules are for this and who can I send the tape to. Is there a website for this?

Thanks,

Hi,

The tape must be contigueouse  with no stops or edits.

If you mail it to Me and Lewis, we won’t be able to certify you- but we will do a Mystery Science Theater styled voice over with hand puppet shadows making rude gestures.

Christopher

Contigueouse I take it is a language cross between Cantonese and Portugese?

I would take Chris up on this offer just to see what you get back. It could be a scream.

You can send the video to me to be tested. I can take digital files online, or a VHS, 8 mm, or Hi8 tape that is recorded in NTSC (different than what’s used in most of europe, unfourtunately). If you go the digital route, let me know and I’ll get an ftp dropbox for you to upload the video to. For videotape, you can send it to:
Kevin Gilbertson

Shoreview, MN 55126
USA.

You can also send it to the USA PO box, but that’ll most likely end up in my hands, anyways.

Make sure you read through the definitions of the skills at http://www.unicycling.org/usa/levels/ to make sure you are doing the skill correctly. Also, when filming it, it must be uncut (keep the camera on all the time) and make sure the camera angles make it clear that you are doing the skill correctly.

Great, thanks Gilby.

Looking at the USA website, it appears I don’t need an official USA tester to pass levels 1-4. So, I just need to video tape myself passing level 5, correct?

Off to practice my mounts,

Question: I don’t see anything in the descriptions about arm position. Since I am more MUni-oriented, this concerns me; do the rules state anything about arm position during skill execution?

I am from the school of “doing it the Standard Skill way”. This means that
optimally, unless required otherwise, your arms should be sticking straight
out to the sides, with hands palms down, fingers straight and together.

The purpose of this in Standard Skill is to show mastery of the skills. When
the skill requires one or both hands to be elsewhere, they do what they have
to. For example when riding with the seat in front, one hand holds the seat
and the other hand can be sticking out to the side.

However there are no deductions on the skill levels for bad form, it’s
pass/fail. So you really don’t have to do anything special with your arms if
you don’t want to.

Thanks for the info, John! I know the standard skills competitions require that arm position but I wasn’t sure about the level testing itself.

AFAIK, arm position is irrelevant. Can you think of an arm position
that could possibly invalidate an otherwise correct execution of a
skill?
