Size Zero Models

Size Zero

By Liz (treepotato)

Oh the wonderful celebrities
Who live the lives stars
Do they ever stop to think
Their actions leave such scars?
Do they even realise that their ‘latest diets’
Cause so much pain and suffering
And peer pressure riots?
The “accidental” photos taken by the press
Look more like skeletons
Despite what they confess

Then there are the fashion labels
That send out on the catwalk
Young and innocent girls
As thin and pale as chalk
Did they know that actually
Humans try to wear their clothes
Humans who do actually eat
And don’t snort coke up their nose

Size zero becomes the new eight
What happened to a ‘perfect ten’?
Why can’t Topshop ditch the skeletons
And hire proper women again

Celebrities’ stand as teen idols
Popstars have risen to fame
But the example that they set
Is not one we should frame

Do you realise that some people who are size zero aren’t skeletons, that they don’t diet, eat normally and don’t snort coke?

I’m sorry, it’s a good poem, but having dated a girl for over a year who eats normally, doesn’t exercise, certainly doesn’t abuse drugs and is still naturally a size zero I’m getting a little sick of the media branding anyone who is a size zero as necessarily someone with food issues or some sort of mental problem. I agree that making girls feel bad about themselves by demanding they conform to a ‘normal’ that they will never be able to reach is extremley unhealthy, both mentally and physically, but so is saying that anyone who is naturaly a size zero has a problem.

In short, nice thought-provoking poem, just remember some people are naturally really small.

I enjoyed your poem, however, I have to ask; Who is more guilty, the producer, or the consumer (or both?)

That may be an issue, but I believe obesity is a far greater problem in the world today.

in the US, perhaps. hunger is the biggest diet related issue world wide.

Exactly my thoughts, except I’ve never dated a size zero.

But I am naturally thin myself, and so support thin people.

very nice poem.

i have a frind who is a model and she knows she is way to skinny and hates it but it pays well. but there is good news. a few prominent fasion companys in Montreal have put a ban on models with a body mass index of less than 18 (18.5 to 25 is considered normal) if this catches on a very skinny friend may be out of a job but i think it would be good for society.

this is almost fore sure a result of people speaking out with poems such as the one you just wrote.

you may have a bigger effect on the world than you relize when you speak your mind. keep it up!

Quoted again because it’s good stuff. Anything I said would be along the same lines.

Nothing wrong with being size zero if that’s the way the gods made you. Nothing wrong with being size 16 if you’re comfortable that way. The problem is trying too hard to be the wrong size.

Unfortunately, in modern western society, every industry encourages people to be lazy and fat, except for those industries that make you feel guilty for not being skinny. Sit down, order a pizza, crack open a beer and watch reality TV, and quietly expand - until the adverts come on and show impossibly slim and beautiful people like you can never be. Then feel bad about it for a moment and order another pizza to cheer yourself up.

We have government initiatives to encourage us to eat healthily - while in Africa, children starve.

I’m starting to suspect our society is flawed.

Get out. No way.

The solution is obvious. Stop consuming “the media”. 'nuff said.

Hey
I was just a skinny lad
Never knew no good from bad,
But I knew life before I left my nursery,
Left alone with big fat Fanny,
She was such a naughty nanny!
Hey big woman you made a bad boy out of me!
Hey, hey!

I’ve been singing with my band
Across the wire, across the land,
I seen ev’ry blue eyed floozy on the way, hey
But their beauty and their style
Wear kind of smooth after a while.
Take me to them lardy ladies every time!

(C’mon)
Oh won’t you take me home tonight?
Oh down beside your red firelight,
Oh and you give it all you got
Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin’ world go round
Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin’ world go round

I’m not sick of the media to the extent that I would shut myself off from world events in order to avoid them. I guess the answer is to just not read the gutter press.

I want to meet someone who is a negative size.
And then break them.

thaks 4 all yr comments, i just wanna say that i’m small myself but i used 2 go 2 an all girls school and there was a hell over lot of pressure 2 be tiny there and i knew people who got real ill, so i was just feeling angry at stuff i had seen in magazines and stuff so i wrote the poem, i didn’t mena 2 offend any one, but its good that people r talking bout it on the thread

Great poem, it should be added to the poetry thread I made but no one has added to in a long time.

Being a size zero is good, but how you got there, may not be.

I think there is nothing wrong with diet and exercise. You don’t blame the media, you don’t blame the people that look like that. You blame the impatient girls trying to reach that look too fast. Any girl (basically, with time of course) can reach the look with the right diet and exercise. It may take time, but still. It’s the girls that don’t want to take the time, and want to rush it. If you’re paid to look good, or on the red carpet and have to look good, of course you are going to be thin and what not. That’s intense exercise and dieting with trainers. Nothing wrong with that, just take it slowly for the people that want to look like that, it takes time. I think small sizes are hott. That’s just me though.

p.s. I like being able to pick up my girl, carry her, throw her up in the air, whatever to feel strong. So she feels safe.

Keep coooool Cathwood!:stuck_out_tongue:
I also think size 0 model CAN look hot… just like any other woman… Fortunately, love and happyness is not a matter of fitness.

PS: don’t you find that your point of view is a little bit “old school”? especially coming from a teenager:(…
Or does this mean that you are affected by the same the social pressure that lead teenage girls to anorexia (I mean “sexy” girls shown everywhere say “You should look like me!” to women and “You should sleep with me” to men)
…Please don’t think I’m judging you:D , you perfectly have the right to find skinny girls are sexy (of course;) ).

It’s all a matter of patience. Diet and exercise work, if you take the time (females) it will work. See yoru point of view jumps to anorexia, i’m not stating that, it’s healthier to eat more (everyone knows that, i’m just stating it in my agruement) as long as it’s in portions and healthful food.

Old school? I never knew opinion about looks had an old school. I just look like this, I know i’m fit, I exercising a lot, and diet what not, blah blah, one of many levels of compatablity is looks along with religion, political party, jobs, blah blah (humans are naturally competitive, theres proof relationships do better that more equal they are, so one doesn’t feel like the weaker person in the relation, are you going to make me cite this, haha, I hope not, this debate isn’t really important). That’s maybe why I like my girls thinner than average.

p.s. I don’t feel judged, I put out my opinion so much so when people meet me, they know what they’re getting.

It’s not about the look, it’s about the way you see male/female interactions (the man being there to protect the weak lady…)
You can be a “real man” without being your girl’s bodyguard, some girls (mine for instance:o ) are perfectly able to defend themselves even better than their man could… and still look hot;)
