Squeaky Onion: Since you say: Boo Texas, I was wondering what everybody’s take is on this movie about the Dixie Chicks, who said: I’m ashamed Pres Bush is from Texas. Then Bush organized a massive boycott of them, and laughed about how he kicked their *ss.
Anyone seen the movie about this? Called: Shut up and Sing!
Sometimes reality is too much, and I prefer some escape in movies, but hey, we’ll give it a shot.
you prolly don’t recall all the terror Bush stirred up against them, steam rolling over all their CDs, big right wing radio campaigns against them. Trying to intimidate anyone who spoke out against the Bush regime.
Yeah, Bush sucks, and congress has even LOWER approval ratings, and they’re both democrat majority, so go figure. But most politicians suck…on both sides of the aisles. They all make promises they can’t or won’t keep, just to get your vote.
Have some hope. There are some shining stars in Congress and HR, and they need your support.
Sen. Feinstein, for example, has been a champion for many causes in which I believe (support for troop withdrawal and Internet neutrality are some examples), as has my local rep. Anna Eshoo.
Whenever a bill comes around that concerns me, I write to them, often to find they have the same concern that I do. That gives me hope.
Complaints get us nowhere. If you’re fed up, take action. Pressure those politicians who don’t support you, and praise those who do. After all, they’re our employees, no?
The Dixie Chicks called it as they saw it. They were right, but a lot of people didn’t like it at the time. The ones who punished them for having an opinion should be ashamed of themselves, and I’m sure some are. Others aren’t, but then again some people would rather die than admit they made a mistake. I’m waiting to see if our President is a member of that group…
I’m not much of a fan of Country music, but I’m a fan of the Dixie Chicks!
First off, Bush did not call for a boycott. That was handled by the right wingers, on their own, with out any prompting from the executive branch.
Secondly; entertainers need to learn one thing: You are an entertainer, Your living is made by entertaining in CD’s , movies, television shows.
You’re also allowed the freedom of speech. Should you choose to exercise your freedom of speech by making a political stance, then don’t be suprised to discover you have alienated half of your audience. Don’t bitch about it when that happens.
The Chicks make their living selling CD’s and concert tickets to the country music demographic, an extremely red, right, group of blue collar, nascar watching, church-going folk. They pissed off the wrong people and then they were suprised when they took a huge loss in CD and ticket sales?
really, what did they expect?
They are entitled to their opinion, I am also entitled to spend or not spend my money as I see fit.
