I wanted to know what’s up with some riders tying shoelaces to the bottom of their saddles. How does one do such a thing? I’m baffled.
I know my KH20 came with a removable cover that ties on with strings. That’s probably what your seeing.
no it’s actually the shoelaces dangling beneath the feet of the unicycle gnomes that cling to under the seat. they are magical, and i hear if you catch one of them it brings you lots of good luck and women and money.
I loled at this… and completely aggree
This thread isnt about jeremy and chris?! What?!?!
lets all voice our opinions and then jump to conclusions and call eachother names!
Bob Saget!
lol lost as now but

Where else should one put his spare shoelaces? You don’t want a broken shoelace ending your street session, do you?
By tying it in a knot. Ask someone to show you, it’s much easier that me describing it here.
We knew that the moment you posted a unicycling thread in Just Conversation. Everything will make sense once you post unicycling threads in Rec.Sport.Unicycling, where they belong.
Thank you. That’s really helpful. I figured the shoelace was for aesthetics.
I particularly like the look of old, dirty, and oft-trodden-on* shoelaces.
The new ones that come with the KH seatcovers just don’t look good enough, though they are an improvement over the boring metal staples used on Nimbus seats.
I even stopped using the regular cords to tie my KH seatcover on. I now use the shoelaces from my old running shoes.
I have noticed a significant increase in performance since making the switch, despite the increased weight from all the mud kneaded deep into the laces themselves.
I’m not sure what facepalms and bears have to do with the subject at hand, but I don’t really care if your bear thinks what I said/typed is ridiculous.
Welcome to the forums, Taylor E. As you have already found out, some of us believe any thread related to general unicycling should go in the rec.sport.unicycling forum. I don’t agree. Random threads like this one are better off here. The problem is when more interesting/relevant/less obscure unicycle threads get posted here and lots of people don’t see them so they don’t know about it and can’t comment.
You have also found out you’re going to get silly answers to silly questions. Apparently you’re asking about removeable seat covers, that usually use laces to hold them on. Look at the bottom of one and you’ll see it works pretty much like a shoe. Why so baffled?
Now for my obligatory joke answer:
What’s up with some riders tying shoelaces to the bottom of their saddles? I don’t know but it keeps the unicycle going off the cliff if they UPD up there. On the other hand, it brings the unicycle along if the rider falls off the cliff…
NOTE: Use of the term UPD was intentional.
Before asking what it means (though this thread would be an appopriate place at this point) try a search.
Thanks for the warm welcome.
I don’t think my question was silly. I’ve seen seat covers with laces that look like plain old laces, and I’ve seen the ones that are radically coloured and tied in a variety of ways. I simply wanted clarification on why some laces were lime green and the like.
And though I appreciate the advice, I assure you, I know what UPD means. I’m not so much of a noob as I am the type of person who looks at things technically. Also, I’m trying to resolve a bet. My dad says the laces are just for covers, but I think that the laces are also for aesthetic because of the colours and the complication of design.
(John Foss?! Inspiration alert!!! You competed in RTL for the Centurions, right?)
There are the plain laces that come with the seat, and those ones are just to hold the seat cover on the seat.
Then there are the colorful laces that are put there by making additional holes to the seat cover and ‘pimping’ up your ride.
So yes, the colorful ones are for aesthetics purpose.
EDIT and no, your question wasn’t silly I used to wonder the same thing
To win, you just need one rider to agree with you. Or some. I’ve just used the laces that came with the covers. My first lace-on cover was a piece of extra padding for Miyata seats, that I think I got in Japan. It didn’t cover the ends of the seat, but stayed on due to being narrower in the middle. I used it on my 9-footer, which didn’t help much because you always seem to get saddle sore on a tall giraffe in a parade.
Yes, I’m one of the Centurions. Now we’re up to 104 years’ total riding. I haven’t seen my teammates since RTL and NAUCC last summer…
BTW, I’ve done more than RTL.
Anyone else see the new saddle from Yoggi’s new company in the latest uni mag?
Cool! Is this that exceed unicycle components?
