Hi everyone,
After yesterday’s ride, I am dealing with some shaffing from what looks like the rear bumper edges. It seems to put pressure/rub on the thigh/bum transitional area (the one making a fold when standing up) and is annoying when sitting during the ride and after. I do not remember reading about this in the past. But as I have had this problem with 2 type of saddles (Impact Naomi and KH Zero), there might be other folks facing a similar situation.
As for the investigation so far: the clothes are not the cause as different fabrics and cut (pants vs shorts) do not change a thing. True, yesterday’s ride was worse because of the angle of the KH Zero and I will reduce it and see if it improves the situation. But on the Impact Naomi on my muni, it eventually comes around when riding for a while (either duration or just as continuous stretch).
I am curious to hear how some managed to alleviate the problem as removing the bumper would do the trick but the saddle may have a shorter lifespan. I was wondering about cutting some part of the bumper but not knowing if the problem is the top edge or the pointy corner makes for a guessing game.
And I am (maybe?) ready to hear that my body is the problem and I have to find/make an aircraft carrier saddle to support me
In that case I have nothing to add.
But since I‘m posting anyway… Couldn‘t you fix something to the bumper by means of double sided tape? Ride a couple kms, add something that sticks mildly out in the area you suspect to be the problem, then hop on the uni and see if you marked the correct area. Since you already rode a while your body should be quite sensitive.
You can of course move whatever you chose to use (e.g. a button) to a different location to see if things get better or worse. In the end you hopefully have a better idea where to shave the bumper off.
Alternatively you could unscrew the bumper, squeeze a strip of metal between the saddle and the bumper, re-attach the bumper and bend the metal strip around the bumper‘s edge so that it covers the suspected problem area. Make sure that the metal has no sharp edges or corners.

The most puzzling part is that there is technically 2 corners on each side of the rear bumper: the one at the top and the one on the bottom. My guess would be the bottom one is the one creating the problem. However, the question remains about: is it the shape or is it because is needs to be shorter ?
I think I will either try to reproduce, remove, verify and then hack away. Or I will hack first and pray that it won’t expose the saddle too much where it is vulnerable (as these bumpers were designed for a specific purpose and are not extra plastic thrown in for the fun of it).
