Serial Arborcide vs Mass Arborcide

They caught an arborcider in a nearby neighborhood, many victims in a nearby park, some dumped in his mother’s backyard.

I thought the use of the suffix -cide in the word arborcide was incorrect, as the trees have apparently not been killed. (and in current use that suffix seems reserved for acts that result in the death of the victim).

But I was wrong.

I guess the broken branch has been killed …
