Spotted a bargin this week folks.
For Sale. Semcycle Giraffe Unicycle. Brand New Still in Box Only 1 month old. Cost $900. Sell $250. (Australian Dollars)
I score myself a bargin and I Just put a deposit on it this Morning at 10.30am (Australian Time). I will be able to pick it up in 3 to 4 weeks. The Owner doesn’t want it and I bought it. Watch out for a preview on it in Product Reviews. My full story will be told soon. Stayed Tune.
The Semcycle still uses a hub with a threaded on sprocket and a lockring to keep the sproket from coming undone. The lockring doesn’t always work as well as it should.
At a minimum you should use red Loctite (permanent strength #271) on the threads under the lockring and the sprocket. And make sure the sprocket and lockring are on tight. If in doubt take it to a bike shop and have them do it (and make sure they use red Loctite). It requries a special wrench to tighten the lockring. If you ride it hard the loctite will eventually slip.
A more reliable option is to weld the sprocket onto the hub. This is guaranteed to never slip. But you’ll never be able to rebuild the wheel. Welding is the best option for safety reasons. There are some threads in the RSU forum about getting the sprocket welded to the hub.
Update Semcycle Giraffe. A Bargin.
Found out yesterday afternoon that the bloke is chucking in Two extra Saddles and a 24" wheel. Wow I said to him on the Telephone. Way cool at $250. I can’t believe it I’m getting a Semcycle very soon in a couple of weeks time. Can’t wait 'til I get it.
David.
A quick update again. The guy is away and I won’t get the uni for about 3 to 4 weeks. What a bummer. He said to me it’s still mine but I can’t pick it up until he comes home. Another good reason is I chuck in a delivery fee because the car I got is a Sedan. A Subaru Liberty. (Legacy in the U.S.) He told me it won’t fit in the Boot and I told him it’s got 60-40 split-fold seats and he said Oh &*!?)($#%@. Any way. Hopefuly in a few weeks, I get this Uni once and for all.
David.
Congratulations! That really does sound like a great find. Why did he decide to throw in the two saddles and 24" wheel? Is he just completely giving up unicycling? Do you have access to a digital camera? If so, please post some photos. I’m hoping to get an 8’ giraffe sometime.
Andrew. He is not giving away unicycling at all. He doesn’t want the giraffe because he can’t handle it. The 24’ wheel is for 6 foot riding. See this. I have got a digital camera only if my father let me to get it from him. Bugger my father Andrew. I’ll let you know very soon. I’m getting a new Scanner too. I’m aiming at a Canon or the one from Aldi store that looks interesting. The Two Saddles is a spare. Why I don’t know you may ask.
I have a 6’ SemCycle giraffe. It breaks down very close to the crank housing. It has a two-stage seat post arrangement so that the bottom half is actually quite short when the two are separated. That’s where the quick release is located, too. It’s a snap to break in half and put in the boot (trunk US) of even a small car. You were, of course, telling him that with your 60-40 split fold downs it would go into your car fully assembled, right?
Right and he didn’t know that it comes apart. That’s why I told him that, that it would fit. As you said the quick release is located at the crank housing. That’s why I pointed to it and show him that’s the quick release pole and just put it in the trunk. I originally had a Nissan Pulsar sedan and that would fit in nicely.
A 1987 Pulsar Vector Fitted with a Holden Motor ( Had relations with Nissan at the time in the late 80’s) was a brezze with my Standard Unicycle and it should be the brezze with the Giraffe.
My Dad sold the Nissan to a Subaru Liberty in 1996 and I got the car only on loan. I’m Saving a car on my own as I haven’t got Full Employment yet. A Station Wagon I’m getting. Thanks Harper and I’ll keep you posted soon on what’s happening Thanks Mate.
Hooray at last it’s here. Came last night at 10.00pm (Australian Time) 4/17/2003. Now all I have to do is assemble it. Pictures will come soon in my new gallery. But don’t hold your breath.
