sem deluxe and 3" gazz

A few questions for the knowledgeable ones on the list.

Will a 24" x 3" gazzolodi tyre fit into my 24" Semcycle deluxe?

Will it fit OK on the standard semcycle deluxe rim?
Will I need to upgrade to a fatter rim? What is recommended?

At the moment I have a 24 x 2.7 Maxis high roller in there (on the semcycle
rim). This tyre is pretty good but I would like to know if I can go with a
fatter tyre. The tread pattern on the Gazz looks a lot better too.

Thanks in advance for the help,

Hmm, knowledgeable? Moving rapidly on…

No, I don’t think it will. There’s plenty of clearance for the width but
the square profile of the Gazz won’t fit under the crown.

The SemCycle rim is a fair bit narrower than the Combat Halo rim that
most people seem to use with the Gazz but it’s probably a moot point now…

I don’t think there is even enough width in Sem Deluxe frame for a 3 incher. My 2.6 barely fits width-wise.

Weird. My frame has at least 3.5" between the forks. It’s a few years
old, mind. Maybe they’ve changed the design? We’re talking deluxe with
the flat forks, not XL with tubes, right?

I’m sorry, I stand corrected. My mind said XLW, not Deluxe. There is not enough room in the XLW for a 3 incher, but I couldn’t comment on the Deluxe as I haven’t seen one. My apologies.

No worries. Not the first time the two have been confused - and it
certainly won’t be the last.

Just remember, “the deluxe is the one with the real hair”.

That’s just confused 80% of the readership.

Mark,

You’re apparently okay with the height. Maybe someone can provide an inflated width measurement. Today, Sem uses the same frame for 24" and 26". Judging by your excess crown height, this was probably the case with your frame. I have the 26 XLW and the height and width are a problem. But, after riding the Gazz, I found that it was a necessity. Maybe this post should be in the ‘If you had to start over, what would you do differently’ thread. I’d buy a Uni with a Gazz 3.0 upgrade to make sure it fits. A 24" Yuni is one option, but it’s sold with a 26" frame if you order the Gazz 3.0 upgrade.

Hi, Unibiker.

Sorry, I seem to be specialising in posts that cause confusion.

I have a 26" SemCycle deluxe (which as you say uses the same frame as a
24"). I also have a Nimbus 2 (aka Yuni) with a Gazz 3.0 tyre.

Wayne van Wijk asked if the Gazz tyre would fit in the SemCycle frame.
With the aid of a tape measure, I ascertained that the width was fine
but the tyre is so big that the diameter is a problem - even though a
nominally 26" wheel fits (the biggest tyre I can get in my Sem frame is
a 26"x1.75"). The square profile of the Gazz means it measures 26"x3".

Mark, is there plenty of clearance on the nimbus 2/3inch gazza set up?

Yes, there are no problems at all.

I’m using a 28" Nimbus 2 frame (because I plan to build a 29" wheel for
it one of these days) so there’s loads of clearance above the tyre but
even the 24" frame has some clearance.

Thanks for the concise answer Mark,
