If a multi geared hub were available, would that make the 36" wheel obsolete?

Tholub suggested in the General Schlumpf thread that he felt the 36" wheel was nothing more than a gimmick, that if unicycles could be geared more like a bicycle, that this wheel size would lose favor. Now these are not Tom’s exact words, it was the impression I got from reading his posts, but it does bring up an interesting question: Why do people ride 36ers? I moved long time ago to 125mm bearing distance with disc on the hub ! This is compatible with Nimbus Oracle frames, no more with KH
