I’m riding the STP in july. I signed up to be a two day rider, but I now realize I can do it in one day. If you have a couch you could spare from Saturday night July 14th to Sunday morning 16th when the bus takes me back, I’d appreciate it!
Are you saying you plan to ride a unicycle 200+ miles in one day? That’s pretty impressive. If not, what’s your plan? If so, how did you realize you’ll be able to do that?
I would offer my parents couch but I don’t think they would let me, there is a Shilo Inn near my house though, it’s fairly affordable…
no, I’m biking. Hoping to finnish under 11hrs.
One day on a unicycle would be pretty rough, the slowest average speed to finnish in the structured one day plan, is 17mph with a total of 12 hours in the saddle. What speeds are people able to maintain on cokers(geared?) these days?
thanks
That will be impressive.
Are you riding as part of an organized subgroup so you can draft and keep with people you know and have the same goal?
Every time I’ve done a century ride on my bike it has been me on my own. No drafting. No one to pace with. Makes it tough. I was nowhere near 5.5 hours for 100 miles and my longest ride was 110 miles in a day.
I’m not riding with a subgroup. It shouldn’t matter though, the stp is on track to sell out this year, which means there will be 9,000 other riders making the trek. I’m sure there will be plenty of other riders at my ability level whom I can draft. I’ve been told that it’s pretty much a paceline the whole way.
I completed a solo 5hr 30min century even though I bonked the last 15 miles (i.e. would have been faster if I ate enough and stayed hydrated).
pacelining is incredible, when done correctly, you can ride 22-24mph with a 19mph effort. It feels like you are being pulled, and in a sense, you are.
