Seatpost Rebuild

For anybody who’s interested, here’s some pictures of how I’m rebuilding my seatpost. I’ve been riding the FMF Powerstick seatpost, but I’ve broken two of them where the head joins the tube, and as I hate the clamp designs on the steel seatposts available in my size(22.2mm) I’m rebuilding my powerstick to be a solid aluminum post. It weighs about 12 oz. but I’m hoping it’ll much stronger than my previous post.

I’ve simply machined a 1"x1’ aluminum bar down to size with a .535" diameter stub on the one end that I press fit into a hole on the head I broke off the FMF post. All that remains is for me to find someone to weld the joint for me. Sorry I didn’t take any pics of the head and post before I pressed them together.

Umm… so the pictures didn’t work, but you can check them out in my gallery.

When you use the IMG tags, you need to put the url of the picture and not the page that the picture is on. Depending on your computer, right click the image and either click properties and get the image url or click copy “image address” or something like that.

I knew I was doing something wrong, but I was too tired last night to figure it out. Thanks Spencer.

I got it welded today, cost me $10, and I got the aluminum for free, so I don’t think that’s too bad of a price for a new post.

Nope, doesn’t it need heat treated to be strong? I know nothing about metals and such, excuse my ignorance. That does look rather nice, hopefully it works better.
