Regarding seat design: I purchased a DM from the wonderful John Drummond at
Unicycle.com. I’d taken to wrapping wash clothes with duct tape around the seat
of my old Schwinn and told John I wanted something better. We tried the 12"
inner tube setup, but for my kind of street ripping, it was too bouncy. I’m
experimenting with the gel which I’m finding John and I used too much of as it’s
raised my seat height too much. One layer only next time. I don’t have a lot of
time to experiment with what I believe would work but try this on for size:
Taking the original padding removed from the seat John sold me before we put the
inner tube in, remove down the middle enough padding (approximately 2") to
insert a 12" inner tube that is cut the length of the seat and somehow sealed at
the ends. This gives you the bouncy cushion under the sensitive parts and the
stiff padding protecting the thighs from the regular bruising I seem to get when
the sides are lacking support. All without making the whole body bounce
uncontrollably. In theory I feel this is one option I’ll soon try. Sealing the
ends of the cut inner tube is a problem maybe someone has a solution for.

Re: Seat design
Tube clamping would be cool. You might try using an 8" wheelchair tube if you
need something off the shelf that’s small.
What I’d really like to see is a specialized seat-shaped inflatable thingie.
Ideally it would have internal cross braces to keep it from squashing out the
sides when you sit on it, but I’m probably dreaming here.
As for handles, I’d like a seat that has a recess under the rear quadrants so
there’s room for your fingers to curl under all the way. Of course with a nice
rounded shape to grab , like the 1 cm hose Kris mentioned.

Hi Chris! Have you ever tried a small hot water bottle or the like? I have seen
some big guys blow them up on TV, and they said they can take about 90
psi. Should be adequate for the riding I do…
Blessings!
