what type of seat clamps does everybody use because those standard quick release one suck ass, i’ve got mine as tight as it will go and the seat still comes loose by me just riding around.
i have a 3 allenkey seat post clamp. its seems to hold everything in place just fine. i had a quck release until it broke from over tightening to insure i didnt have the same loose seat probem.
since the 9$ investment i have been really happy and well its sort of like jewlery for your unicycle, it looks cool too.
Me too.
Yes, the standard bent metal clamp that is used on many of the entry level Taiwanese unicycles (and even the Miyata) is indeed a poor excuse for a seatpost clamp. It just plain does not work very well. You might even say that it sucks ass.
The problems with that type of seatpost clamp are many. It flexes which means that it cannot clamp tightly. It doesn’t put even clamping pressure all the way around the neck of the frame which causes it to clamp in an oval shape rather than a perfectly round shape. Because it squeezes like an oval it tends to squish and dent and deform the seatpost till the seatpost is no longer round. It’s a bad bad seatpost clamp design.
The solution is to get a BMX style seatpost clamp. Unicycle.com, Bedford Unicycles and Semcycle all have upgraded seatpost clamps that will work. Your local bike shop will also have some suitable BMX style seatpost clamps (look for a bike shop that carries BMX gear).
You are unlikely to find a good quick release seatpost clamp that will fit the small diameter unicycle seatposts. The good quick release seatpost clamps are designed for larger diameter seatposts that are used on mountain bikes. If you want a good seatpost clamp for a 22.2 mm seatpost you’re going to have to go with a non quick release design.
I have a single bolt odyssey. it works nicely enough.
