Scwhinn hub question

Hi–

Quick question to owners of Schwinns–my bearings died on me, and I have an old
cottered hub with constantly loosening cranks, so was considering doing a
complete upgrade on the thing. So here is the question: Can I replace the
Schwinn hub with a nice new Suzue, or do I need another Schwinn hub? (I tried to
get Tom Miller to answer this one, but no one was home) The critical thing would
be if the funky double-C-clip bearings would have the same inner diameter as the
6003/6203 bearings that fit the Suzue hub. I suspect spacing might also play
into this, but to a lesser extent.

On another note, this damn broken uni has my stroke of midnight/new years
unicycling somewhat on hold (I suppose I can steal back the 20" for a bit, and
make my son ride his 16")–but are many others planning to be on one wheel when
Y2K strikes?

Happy holidays to all!

A good upgrade for an old cottered Schwinn would be a nice Miyata or Semcycle
 The old cottered Schwinns were really solidly built, but there comes a time
when it’s better to upgrade all the way.

I don’t think bearing sizes are compatible between the Schwinn and Suzue hub.
Get a new Schwinn hub if it’s worth the money, but then you need new cranks too.

I’m going to a big party in downtown Sacramento with 10,000 or so other people.
If they let me bring in a unicycle I might, but at the stroke of midnight I will
probably have my lips planted on another very special pair of lips.
