>A short chronology of the history of Schwinns (accuracy not guaranteed)
Thanks, John, for the fascinating and useful chronology. Can you scan the
Schwinn giraffe label and put it up on your web page? I’d like to see it.
A couple years ago I read an interesting book on the rise and fall of the
Schwinn Bicycle Company - I’m pretty sure the title was “No Hands”. I don’t
remember anything in there about unicycles, but the chapters on the development
of the Stingray and the origins of the mountain-biking phenomena out in Marin
County were very interesting.
My Schwinn unicycle is the first Schwinn that I have ever owned, and I love
it dearly!

No, it’s mine!! Well okay. I’ll make a note of it but it might take a while
before I get to it…

Same is true for my Giraffe. My brother had a Schwinn bike long before that, but
I never did.

I have a Schwinn uni and a couple of Schwinn 2 wheelers. My favorite is the old
Schwinn Super Sport 10 speed, baby blue rides like a dream. Then got my wife a
used but nice Schwinn Sprint, darker blue, girls step thru-bike. while it was
upside down one day playing with tires or gears or something, I noticed “Giant”
stamped into the frame by the serial numbers. Then found out that real Schwinns
had a head plate with “Schwinn Chicago” or similar, Bikes made by others like
Giant for Schwinn have “Schwinn Quality” on the neck badge.
The uni? It is too heavy to come from overseas, would sink the ship.
