schools in Germany

do schools in Germany go into detail about WWII history? or glance over it

Why would they just skip over WWII? It was a vital part of world history, a vital part of Germany’s history.

Germany has schools?

I suspect it has many more schools than texas does.

Don’t be pokin’ fun at our edumucation system, ya hear?

they made fun of it on a show I was watching, I think family guy, and it made me wonder

Ah yes, the fine education system that churned out GWB (actually I’d be willing to bet that he went to a private school). It’s just that germany’s population is over twice that of Texas.

I have been to a museum in a german town, on a daytrip from a german school, that was mostly about the effects of the wars. While the idea that they’d ignore it is vaguely humorous (funny enough for a family guy joke anyway) I think it’s far from the truth.

GWB is from Conneticut. Texas should sue him for giving them a bad rep.

Yeah, I believe it’s actually illegal to deny the holocaust in Germany.

I’ve heard that Japan’s history books give no mention to Pearl Harbor. Is this true?

Schools in Germany do go in detail about WWII and also about WWI.
So we know our past…

I’ve only heard that the stories are different there than they are taught in the US. Both side probably spin it.

Exactly. The question should probably be how do they teach the history of WWII, and how does it compare to the way it’s taught in your country?

Do not assume that what you get in your country is the “correct” history either. There’s room for a lot of interpretation on such things…

Japan does have a bit of an issue with their textbooks as far as brevity in regards to World War II, but as far as I know its not so much with USA attacks its with regards to their raping and pillaging of China. There were alot of demonstrations and protesting a few months back on the issue.

i totally agree with you.

And japan and china seem to have a very big problem with their past history but i believe its just a pride thing from the goverments. then again i know near to nothing of these cultures so dont quote me on this

In our American History classes the USA are always the good guys, even when we’ve done some really bad things…I hardly remember learning anything about the Japanese concentration camps we had in WWII. So it might not be impossible for Germany to sugarcoat what happened or something…but I donno, I’m just speculating.

Most of the historylessons are about WWII and WWI

Teacher: “We came close to winning ww2 but then cashualy lost. That is the end of the lesson.”

(is this what you were thinking of?)

the schools here kinda gloss over it as to noit offend anyone

yes it is stupid and thanks to political correctness i have had littlary had no school education about WW2

Also excluded or spinned:

  • That the Greer, an American ship, was tracking a German sub for several hours and communicating with the British air forces it's position. This resulted in the Greer being torpedoed by it, and then later an order to shoot any German sub when sighted was made.
  • FDR sold weapons to China when they were waring against Japan, and legislation which was made after WWI did not allow the sale of weapons to countries in war.
  • FDR cut off oil shipments, and freezed other assets, to Japan.
  • And many other things to provoke them into striking us first and justifying to Americans to enter war.
  • Funds from the Marshall plan came after much of West Germany's economic recovery. And other countries that received more funds per capita didn't recover until the funding faded out.
