Anybody got any tips for learning how to ride? so far i kinda got a feel for it but cant get going up to 2 feet…the way i am now doing it is a beam above me in the garage, any other better ways? thx
a beam above you in the garage probably isn’t the best way… Try using a wall next to you instead, and just hold on to that as you ride forward.
PS post this in Rec.Sport.Unicycling, you’ll get much more, and better replies. ( :
Welcolm to the forum!!!
Here’s a link to a page with tips on how to learn to ride. Unicycling Tips Also, try keep most of you weight on the seat, not on the feet.
Best of Luck…
ah! no wonder! i DID have weight on seat, thnx
erm…would short ski poles work?
I’ve heard of people using those, but most of them found it very difficult. I wouldn’t suggest it. using a wall seems to be the best and most popular method.
Hey. I am new to unicycling, too. I am still learning, and thus far, have gotten about 5 or 6 feet.
I used the tips I found from unicyclist and from a few friends that all ride.
I found it best if you find a pole, such as a stop sign, near a street that is not busy a lot. It helps because you can hold on to the pole whilst positioning yourself. Make sure you let go of the pole before you ride because it will throw off your balance if you do not. I had trouble with that at first because it seems a tad scary.
I hope that helps a little bit, and I hope you get it soon.
oh, I can’t believe I forgot the bestest ever method ever… use a tennis court!! preferably one that’s not being used much, because the players would prolly yell at you.
Just hold the chainlink fence, and ride. Tennis courts are generally very long, so you can go forever along the fence until you can ride without holding the fence.
Another great method for learning is to brace yourself against a relatively low ceiling. This works great for learning more advanced skills as well.
I found ski poles very helpful when I was learning to idle and ride backwards, but never used them when learning to ride forwards.
The tennis court is a good thing for forwards learning. But repetition is a better thing. Try, fall, try again, fall again, try again, go a bit further before falling, try, try, try again. Like learning to walk or play an instrument. Muscle memory.
I have had a unicycle for 2 days and i found that using a pillar from a car port and going down the driveway works great! so try that if you can i can already go about 20 feet!
I have to agree with this method …
(or something similar)
I used the corner of my garage door to mount and balance before leaning forward and letting go …
(put uni against a corner or wall, use rear petal pressure to hold uni against wall when mounting, get centered, lean slightly forward, petal to keep up with balance while moving forward)
P.S. Klown … are you ‘Potter’ in disguise …?
