Hi Billy,
I’m hoping it sways someone to adopt a shelter dog instead of a purebred and an older dog instead of a puppy. Older dogs are harder to place, have longer stays in the shelter and are more likely to be euthanized than puppies.
If someone is already planning on adopting an older shelter dog, I’m happy to pass on the uni.
In any case, I need to find a good home for the uni and I thought this might be a nice way to reward someone who did the canine breed a good deed.
But so many adopted dogs get returned to the shelter because there is a reason they got dumped.
My shelter dog, Gala, has some problems. The ASPCA offers lifetime behaviorists for their adoptees, but few take advantage. We had phone consultations and a 2 hour office visit.
I know many people do things they don’t really want to do for the incentive, like open a new bank account to get a free toaster, and then never use the bank account.
I’d hate to see a shelter dog get all excited about being loved and getting a new home, only to later discover the owner took her home just to get a giraffe. That might be very confusing for the dog.
We plan to adopt a shelter dog in the future, but not before at least one of the existing ones die. Two of them are beyond the average age range for their breed…
Billy, have faith in your fellow human beings. The shiny allure of a toaster and the weighty responsibility for the life of a dog are vastly different things. The dog and the giraffe will find a loving home and both will live happily ever after.
Like many if us, I’m surprised and happy to see you post again, Blake;).
I love dogs but I have a message for you american people:
Please don’t adopt a shelter dog. If you do so, Podzol will get rid of her giraffe resulting in the lack of reasons for her to come and drop a little post once in a while.
Save our forum, don’t adopt shelter dogs, or if you do don’t let Podzol know about it.:D;)
more seriously, I admire your dedication to the cause, Blake.
too bad I already have a dog, live too far and don’t have a place to store a 5’ giraffe;).
