Saddle sore and in need of suggestions

I’ve recently started riding more and have found that I can only ride for about 1hr before the saddle soreness becomes almost unbearable.

I’m riding a 24" Schwinn and a 36" Coker. Both have the same style seat (Viscount). It seems like a good seat but I’m told there are better options (Semcycle?). The Schwinn has the seatpost with holes drilled into it so I’m told it’s expensive/difficult to put any other seat besides the Viscount or Semcycle on it.

Observationally it seems that two great seats are the Miyata (possibly with an air-seat conversion) and the custom seats that people are making from the carbon fiber base. How do these compare in terms of comfort to the Semcycle?

I’m hoping to avoid spending too much on upgrading since I’m saving up for a “real” MUni.

Suggestions?

I think the Miyata air seat with a carbon frame is the way to
go–especially if you plan to upgrade to a Muni.

The carbon frame is a bit wider than other seats–more adult-sized. You
also drill it yourself, so you can tip it back a bit to put more weight on
your tailbones.

If you could make just one change, I would make it the airseat. If two
changes: a Miyata airseat. Three changes: Miyata with carbon frame. These
are all incremental changes–investments–that will transfer to your
upgraded unicycle.

I would get rid of the Viscount seat. I had a Viscount on my Pashley Muni
when I bought it, and it stayed on for a very short time, choosing a basic
seat from my basic chrome 20" unicycle as a temporary solution. I have
recently upgraded to a Miyata, and am very pleased with it, an air
conversion would be good, but even with the normal set up, and it is a
very good seat. I don’t know the size of your seat post, but the one
supplied with the Miyata could be fine, or a shim could be needed. I cut
the second tube from my Pashley post, and a friend welded it to the new
Miyata post to fit the Pashley frame, but shims should do the job just as
well, if needed.

I don’t know what shape the Viscount is made for, but it is not my shape,
the Miyata seat works very well for me.

As suggested by other posts, go with an air seat first but second, re-do
the seat post flange so that the back of the saddle is level when the seat
post is vertical.
